Today (8 september) is an important date for music lovers of Hindi movie songs. It was on this date in 1933 that Asha Bhonsle was born. Today she turns 79. And she has been giving playback in HIndi movies since 1948. So she has been a playback singer for the last sixtyfour years ! Simply unbelievable.
Asha Bhonsle is recognised by Guinnes book of world record as the singer with most number of song recordings. This figure stand at over 11 thousand songs. At 1089 songs in this blog, we have so far discussed nearly 10 % of all Asha Bhonsle songs and many more of her songs still remain undiscussed.
On the occasion of Asha Bhonsle’s birth anniversary, we will discuss a few Asha Bhonsle songs. Here is the first Asha Bhonsle song for the say.
This song from “Do Ustaad” (1959) is a duet which is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. The song is picturised on Raj Kapoor and Madhubala.
Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
ha aa
saiyyan main to haar gayi bas bas bas
ho o bas bas bas
haaye nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
ha ha
gori yeh kalaayi kaisi
naram malaayi jaisi
tere to main waari jaawaan balliye
aa aa aa
lambi lambi ganne jaisi
dekhi na haseen aisi
lambi lambi ganne jaisi
dekhi na haseen aisi
o misri diye dalliye
aa aa aa
baaton mein main to gayi phans phans phans
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
ha aa aa
gori main to haar gaya bas bas bas
haan haan bas bas bas
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
hmm hmm
jaao ji jaao baaten ba banaao
rakh di kalaayi meri mod ke
aa aa
dil bhi churaaya tu ne
shor bhi machaaya tu ne
dil bhi churaaya tu ne
shor bhi machaaya tu ne
kaise na jaaun tujhe chhod ke
haaye
taane tu maare mujhe hans hans hans
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
haan saiyyan main to haar gayi bas bas bas
ho ho bas bas bas
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
hmm
jaan-e-jahaan bolo
chali ho kahaan leke
nainon main yeh phuljhadiyaan
haaye ae ae
tum pe marun ga gori
pyaar main karun ga gori
tum pe marun ga gori
pyaar main karun ga gori
chaahe lagen ji hathkadiyaan
aa aa
tadap gayi re meri nas nas nas
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
ha aa
gori main to haar gaya bas bas bas
haan haan
bas bas bas
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
aa ha
door hi rehna sainyyan
phir nahin kehna saiyaan
rakhna ji dil ko sambhaal ke
aa aa aa
ooper se bholi hoon main
andar se goli hoon main
ooper se bholi hoon main
andar se goli hoon main
rakhe hain naag maine paal ke
haaye
zulfon ke naag gaye das das das
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
haan saiyyan main to haar gayi bas bas bas
ho ho bas bas bas
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
ek nahin do nahin aath nau dus
haan saiyyan main to haar gayi bas bas bas
ho ho
bas bas bas
nazron ke teer maare kas kas kas
hmm hmm

Ahh. Such a lovely co-incidence that you choose an OP Nayyar number to begin this day’s celebrations Atul. 🙂
May you be able to post 80 songs today.
Don’t gasp, after all ladies also bless a new bride by saying “May you be the mother of seven sons” 🙂
Surely bearing seven sons is equal to posting 80 songs!

I think her hindi movie songs are around 8000 in number. Rest are non-filmi and mostly non-hindi.
