“Ek Hi Raasta” (1956) was a B R Films production. It was produced and directed by B R Chopra. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Meena Kumari, Daisy Irani, Shreenath, Yashodhara Katju, Jeevan etc in it.
The movie dealt with the issue of widow remarriage which was then a very bold and risky topic for a movie maker to deal with. But B R Chopra had the courage and conviction to take up such topics. The movie, to the credit of the movie going public, became a box office success as well.
I have not seen the movie but I have seen four of its songs that have been discussed in the blog, and I loved these songs as well as their picturisation. And what lovely songs they are too. Chali gori pee ke milan ko chali, a timeless classic is from this movie and the picturisation of this song on Meena Kumari and daisy Irani is heartwarming. Saanwle salone aaye din bahaar ke is also from this movie.
Here is the fifth song from “Ek Hi Raasta” (1956). This melancholic song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Meena Kumari. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hemant Kumar.

Nitin Shah-ji, bahut bahut dhanyawad! This is such a beautiful, if melancholic song sung so feelingly by Lata. I was all of 7 years of age when I went along with my mother and aunt for ‘Ek Hi Raasta’. The scenes I vaguely remember are Sunil Dutt and Meena Kumari a happy couple with Daisy Irani as their son. Not many people are aware that Daisy Irani went by the name of ‘Roop Kumar’ in the movies those days! Sunil Dutt dies when a lorry rams into his bicycle. I also remember that it was no accident! The young widowed Meena Kumari scandalises society when Ashok Kumar befriends her. Tongues wag but Ashok Kumar stands by her. And ultimately marries her.
