Phoolon ke saath dil bhi khil jaate baabu

Posted on: March 20, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

There are ways of discovering wondrous songs now. Radio was the main source where we heard old movie songs. Then for newer songs we had cassette players and C D players and also T V. With the accessibility of internet, I do not need any thing else to listen to songs but my laptop and net connection.

It so happened that one of my husband’s business associate has this song as his mobile caller tune. It is a Lata solo and since he liked it so whenever my husband would call him, will put the speaker on. He asked me about the song, but it was unknown to me. I thought I will look it up, because the tune is very catchy and pleasant to hear. The sound that Lata has for some Madan Mohan songs is too memorable for me. For some 2-3 years this song is in my mind and I was not able to locate it on youtube. All this while I had to be content hearing the mukhda only on the caller tune.

Today again I remembered this song and decided to look for it. As I was afraid, the link for video is not available anywhere. The song is ‘phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu’ by Lata Mangeshkar from the film “Roti” (1974). The lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The film had Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz in lead roles. I have not seen the film , but by the tone and style of the song, it can be guessed as a song which is picturised on Mumtaz.

PS-From the comments posted on this song, it turns out that this song was excluded from the movie and so only the audio of this song is available.

The movie has five songs, four of which are posted in the blog. This is the fifth and final song from this movie and the best song from this movie. It is time that the song is included here. It is a treat for Lata Mangeshkar fans.

Song-Phoolon ke saath dil bhi khil jaate baabu (Roti)(1974) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu
tere mere naina mil jaate baabu
haay ve haay
kis baat pe tujhko gussa aa gayaa
ho ho ho
phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu
tere mere naina mil jaate baabu
haay ve haay
kis baat pe tujhko gussa aa gayaa
ho ho ho
phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu

ham to raazi thhe ae
teer khaane pe ae ae
ham to raazi thhe ae
teer khaane pe ae ae
aan baitthe thhe ae ae
khud nishaane pe ae
pher lee phir tune kyun aankhen
bol bol bol bol
zakhm-e-jigar shaayad sil jaate baabu
zakhm-e-jigar shaayad sil jaate baabu
haay ve haay
kis baat pe tujhko gussa aa gayaa
ho ho ho
phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu

raam jaate tum mm
kaise dilbar ho o o
raam jaate tum mm
kaise dilbar ho o o
kaun parbat ke ae
koyi patthhar ho o
aadmi hote to jaate
dol dol dol dol
apni jagah se tum hil jaate baabu
apni jagah se tum hil jaate baabu
haay ve haay
kis baat pe tujhko gussa aa gayaa
ho o o
phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu

kya mazaa aaya aa
rootth kar raajaa aa
kya mazaa aaya aa
rootth kar raajaa aa
pyar aaya thhaa aaa
toot kar raaja aa
ruk gaye ham do qadam pe
door door door door
dharti ambar donon mil jaate baabu
dharti ambar donon mil jaate baabu
haay ve haay
kis baat se tujhko gussa aa gayaa
ho ho ho
phoolon ke saathh dil bhi khil jaate baabu
tere mere naina mil jaate baabu
haay ve haay …..
gussa aa gayaa
ho ho ho

I have seen the entire movie, But I don`t remember seeing this song, may be edited out or deleted after the release of the movie.

It is ‘ raam jaane tum mm ” only, I know. Typing mistake on my part. If it was not picturised or used in the movie, than that explains its elusiveness. myswar.com is listing this song, but have no link for the song. They have video links of rest of four songs.

Pity that this song got cut.

Atul ji,

Thanks for uploading the song on youtube. This is really the first time the song is uploaded.

There was a youtube link already uploaded :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK4w3tDexV8

and I may be wrong, don`t mind my observation
but the line “kiss baat pe”, while hearing sounds like “kiss waqt tujhko gussa”

And I do have a audio cassette of Roti movie songs, that cassette contains this Lata song.

Prkashchandra ji,

You are right it is sounding like
‘ kis waqt tujh ko gussa aa gayaa ‘

I thought it is ‘ kis baat se tujh ko ko ‘ .

I was really looking for this song for so many months. The other day, i think i had seen this link, but with the mispelt words and the name of another person, I thought it was somebody else singing some thing .

I could have used this one, if i had known. Instead Atulji had to go to all the trouble of downloading and than uploading. Lesson learnt : to look really hard, and try with misspelt words too.

Using YT is sort of like going on a treasure hunt, dear Nahm. Try shorter searches, for example, use only first 2-3 words of a song name.

Bluefire ji,

With longer search words youtube is throwing up thousands of results. I did try just now, with just ‘Phoolon ke’ as given in Atul ji upload, it gave 42000 results.

I had a similar experience of a song link dodging me, with ‘Dil le ke dagaa denge ‘ from ‘Naya Daur’ . Eventually the link khyati ji found had only ‘dil le ke’ as the song detail.

Good to hear from you.

Yeah, I understand. Its sort of trial and error at times. But in general, shortening number of words in the name would help. Of course, it would depend on these words as well. If the first couple of words are complicated enough (not too common), you would get your result immediately. Here “Phoolon Ke” is very simple, so may not help, but if u try “Phoolon Ke Saath” first search result itself, gives u what u want. Youtube also needs to make money, so with very simple queries, they would throw up popular results (new movies/songs which gets millions of hits and hence more advertisement revenues). So they would start showing results where ur simple search query is not even the part of lets say, first 4-5 words. Still I would say if ur exact query doesnt give u the result, u should start reducing number of words. But dont make it too simple, for example “hum tum” 🙂 Next step would be to search by “movie year” combination or “movie singer” combination etc. Now if the uploader decides not to tag or use “lata mangeshkar song” as the song name, there’s nothing u can do. Then it just becomes pure luck. There is no standard for english transliteration. One can word it “Suraj” or “Sooraj”. Hopefully someday YT would have a better search engine, accounting for all these. It can be done. I had developed similar one once, on a smaller scale. Take Care.
