Teri Allah kare rakhwaali

Posted on: September 15, 2013

“Adl e Jahangir” (1955) was produced and directed by G P Sippy under the banner of G P Productions. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Meena Kumari, Sapru, Roopmala, Jankidas, Darpan, Durga Khote, G.P.Sippy etc in it.

The movie had eight songs in it. As many as seven songs from the movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the eighth and final song from the movie. This song is sung by Rafi. the picturisation of this song shows a fakir singing this song while a young girl, separated from her relatives is in danger. A cobra , for some reason is determined to kill her. He has got information about her whereabouts and is going to that place which seems located at quite a distance. As luck (and script) would have it, a father and son duo happen to pass through that locality. The son is a been player and he is playing been music, much to the annoyance of his father. The snake gets distracted by the been music and that delays his advancement towards the girl. But the been plays only in the interlude and the snake can advance without distraction when the fakir lip syncs. Just as the snake closes it, the been music restarts and that again checks the progress of the snake.

Towards the end of the song, the boy’s father can take it no more. He snathches the been and throws it away. With the been music silenced, the snake has a free passage to the girl and he closes in for a kill. Will it be curtains for the girl ! Moviewatchers get nervous. When all seems lost, another person comes in the frame. It is the boy who has come to pick up his been which fortunately (and as demanded by the script) had fallen close to the girl. The boy picks up his been, and at the same time notices the snake and throws the snake away. the father also arrives at the scene, with a plan to chide his son, but then he also notices the snake and the girl and he picks the girl up. The audience (including me) heave a big sigh of relief.

Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

With this suspensefully picturised song, “Adl e Jahangir” (1955) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Atulji,
Some minor typo errors in the 4th para.
snake to be replaced by song. it to be replaced by He.

As usual, HB give yet another melodious music and Rafi sb in his usual great form.

Also, the Talat and Lata same solo song….ae meri zindagi tujhe dhoondhoon kahan is a gem of a song.
