Ek chhoti si naukri ka talabgaar hoon main
Posted on: September 19, 2013
“Naukri” (1954) was produced and directed by Bimal Roy. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Sheila Ramani, Krishnakant, Moni Chatterji, Kanhaiyalal, Noor, Achla Sachdev, Bikram Kapoor, Samson, Prem Dhawan, Shailendra, Colin Pal, Iftekhar, Jagdeep, Mehmood, Sailen Bose etc in it.
I was under the impression that several (if not all) songs from this movie have been discussed. It turns out that only three songs from this movie have been discussed in the blog, including the much loved timeless classic Chhota sa ghar hoga baadalon ki chhaaon mein.
Here is the fourth song from this movie. This song demonstrates Kishore Kumar’s desperation to get a “naukri”. That way this song is very much the title song as well as the theme song of this movie. According to myswar, This song is sung by Kishore Kumar, Shankar Dasgupta and Shyam Mitra. I have not heard of the singer called Shyam Mitra and it appears that even Myswar have not heard about this singer either because they have no other information available about him.
I consulted our own beloved inhouse encyclopeadia Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, and he promptly informed me that the singer is Shyamal Mitra, who was an assistant to Salil Chaudhary and who later became a legendary music director in the Bangla movie industry. So myswar as well as their original source of information (HFGK) have incorrectly described this singer as Shyam Mitra. No playback singer called Shyam Mitra has ever sung songs for Salil Chaudhary.
The picturisation shows Kishore Kumar, Ifthikar, an unidentified man and Sheila Ramani.
I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actor.
Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

As all Bengal singers are groomed in music from childhood, Shymal also had a reasonably good voice. I enjoyed his song in Musafir, Biraj Bahu and Amanush. I believe he also sang in Anjane Mehman and Mamta of which he was MD. Sometimes it become difficult to distinguish their voices; maybe because of the same food(fish) and Charminar cigs.

hi atul
actually there are 2 unidentifiable men in this song. one sings the line about being a FOOTBALL CAPTAIN. then there is one other who makes and appearance towards the end of the song @ 2.39 to be exact. he is the one who played Sharmila’s Father in “Anupama”– Tarun Bose (or Ghosh)

With due respect to your identification, I think the last (3rd)actor appearing in the song video clip is not TARUN BOSE(the guy who played Sharmila`s father in Anupama and also the murderer of Gumnaam) and also not Tarun Ghosh(who is a permanent feature in Shakti Samant` directed movies like AMANUSH->he played one of the 2 alcoholic friends of Uttam Kumar )etc
I hope you don`t mind my observation, I may be wrong, but I am sure about the identification (only 95 %) 🙂

Pkash ji,
The actor who lipsynchs Shyamal Mitra portion(the second man) is certainly not Tarun Bose or Ghosh.’.
He looks like mauni Chatterjee (before becoming complete bald) to me.
The first person looks like Iftikar.
Its your take, now.(Tarun Bose/Ghosh- not in the credits).

Tarun Bose started his career in 1957 with Apradhi Kaun? and the Naukri was made in1954. Also, the title doesn’t show his name. Here are two links – one for wiki and the other one of the movie itself.

Arun ji, Prakash ji,
My take on the identifications.
The person in the vest, with a round face, is Samar Chatterjee. He sings the line about being the football captain.
The other friend with the thin face, is certainly Iftekhar. He sings the line about not wanting to be a collector or an ‘afasr’.
And yes, in the beginning of the clip, it is Kanhaiya Lal, wearing a dhoti, who brings in the cup of tea and letters.
