In the past decades, right from 1950s onwards, manmade spacecrafts began to be sent in outer space and a new term, viz “Rocket” was added to the vocabulary of mankind.

During 1950s and for much of 1960s, sending of these rockets to outer space remained the preserve of USSR and US. USSR scored a big brownie point when it became the first nation to launch a rocket in outer space called “Sputnik”. Stung by this reverse, US decided to become the first nation to send a man to moon which they achieved in 1969, thus winning a brownie point for themselves.

Other countries of the world were just watchers on the sidelines of this space race between the world super powers. That did not stop the public and media of other nations from creating tales about rockets. Indian movie makers had also joined the bandwagon.

A Hindi movie called “Chaand Ki Duniya” (1959) was made full ten years before the men actually set foot on moon. One song from this movie namely Hoke rocket pe sawaar aaya aaj tera dildaar has been discussed in the past.

Here is another “rocket” song from the same year. This song is from “Didi” (1959). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and two children. The song is picturised on Shubha Khote and two kids, namely Honey Irani and her younger sister Daisy Irani, both playing the roles of boys as was their wont those days. This song is mentioned as an Asha Bhonsle solo song by all sources, but it is clear that the song has the voice of two uncredited kids as well. My guess is that these are the voices of the two Irani kids themselves. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.

Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

With this song, “Didi” (1959) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Mama ji ke rocket par ham chaand ki sair ko jaayenge (Didi)(1959) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, First Child, Second child, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-N Datta

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)

Maama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge

Jaayenge
Are
Maama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge
Wahaan ke bachchon se mil jul kar
doodh malaai khaayenge

Khaayenge
Mama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge

Didi saath na jaayegi to
Kaun tumhe nahlaayegaa
Kaun karega kanghi patti
Kapde kaun pehnaayega
Hawa karegi kanghi patti
Aur baadal nahlaayenge
Pariyaan kapde pehnaayengi
Taare munh dhulwaayenge

Dhulwaayenge
Mama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge
Wahaan ke bachchon se mil jul kar
doodh malaai khaayenge

Raat ko neend na aayegi
To Lorie kaun sunaayega
Ghoda ban kar kaun chalega
Peeth pe kaun bithaayega
Ghoda ba’na kya mushkil hai
Hum khud hi ban jaayenge
Lorie ke record bahut hai
Baaje par bajwaayenge ‘

Bajwaayenge
Mama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge
Wahaan ke bachchon se mil jul kar
doodh malaai khaayenge

Kapdon par gir jaayega saalan
Khaana kaise khaaoge
Didi saath na ho to sun lo
Kuchh bhi mazaa na paaoge

Le chalo na didi ko saath

Mama ji ka rocket hai
Mama ji gar farmaayenge
Hum tumse waada karte hai
Didi ko le jaayenge

Achha ab tum yahin pe thehro
Main jaldi se jaata hoon
Apne pyaare mama ji se
Poochh ke waapas aata hoon

Maama ji ke rocket par hum
Chaand ki sair ko jaayenge
Wahaan ke bachchon se mil jul kar
doodh malaai khaayenge

Waah waah

Please, you are making same mistake again! Here, Daisy is elder sister & Honey is the younger one. Honey is the youngest of 3 Irani sisters. Daisy is the 2nd number and mother of Farha & Sajid Khan is the eldest.
