Khaamosh! Now that is what most mimicry artists would like us to remember this star by. But actually he is more loved for his stylized acting which was not or never a copy of any of the then reigning superstars…. Dilip Kumar- Raj Kapoor- Dev Anand or for that matter Shammi Kapoor. He had a great voice, didn’t have the classic good fair looks of the Pathan descendant actors of those times. Yet he always managed to keep his fan following in the face of stiff competition of Amitabh, Dharamendra, Rajesh Khanna Vinod Khanna etc. And he didn’t mind doing blink and you miss roles at the start of his career. Remember the inspector or havaldaar (don’t remember which he was) assisting Raj Mehra in Saajan (1969- Manoj Kumar Asha Parekh starrer)? He was also seen in a bit role in Pyar Hi Pyar (1969 Dharamendra starrer) (Wikipedia says that he was there in that movie, I have not seen it).
Oh I forgot to mention that I am speaking of the actor turned M.P. Shatrughan Sinha. One can say that joining hands with Subhash Ghai (I think they were friends from FTII) for Kalicharan (1976) was a turn around in his career after which he got to do a lot of central characters. In fact during the Amitabh Bachchan wave he was one actor whose solo movies were waited for.
So on his birthday today (9 december 2013) let us hear a song sung by him under the music direction of R. D. Burman written by Gulzar in the Hrishikesh Mukherjee movie Naram Garam (1981). This was one movie which showed comedy in romance when Shatrughan Sinha falls in Love with Swaroop Sampat or even when Utpal Dutt is shown getting enamoured by the heroine. There is also the Oh My God so comic scene of Seetha Haran where Nilu Phule plays Raavan and is beaten up by a semi drunk Shatru (eating his snack of gud- chana) for “having buri neeyat on Ram’s wife”. And the way he scolds Seeta for crossing the Laxman Rekha as also Laxman for just drawing a line and going behind Ram etc etc etc. I never tire of seeing that scene.
Now let us enjoy this duet by Shatrughan Sinha and Sushma Shreshta picturised on Kiran Vairale and Shotgun Sinha (pet name I suppose)

Lyrics
haaaan
ik baat suni hai chaacha ji
batlaane waali hai
ik baat suni hai chacha ji
batlaane waali hai
arre ghar mein ek anokhi cheez
aane waali hai
haan re
bhaiya ne phir koyi ladki dekhi hai
teri chaachi bulldozer
aane waali hai
ik baat suni hai chaacha ji
batlaane wali hai
din aur raat ki khit khit hogi
horn bajaayegi
achhe khaase ghar ko wo garage banaayegi
din aur raat ki khit khit hogi
horn bajaayegi
achhe khaase ghar ko wo garage banaayegi
are aap ko ainwai chaachi se khatra lagta hai
shaadi ho jaaye to dekhen kaisa lagta hai
haan aayegi hi ab toh wo jo aane waali hai
ik baat suni hai chaacha ji
batlaane waali hai
ghar mein ek anokhi cheez aane waali hai
haan re bhaiya ne phir koyi ladaki dekhi hai
teri chaachi bulldozer
aane waali hai
ik baat suni hai chaacha ji batlaane waali hai
jaane ab kya hoga
wo kya hal banaayegi
munh se khaata thha
wo naakon chane chabvaayegi
jaane ab kya hoga
wo kya haal banaayegi
munh se khaata thha
wo nakon chane chabvaayegi
haan gobhi aalu bane to kahna aalu gobhi de
ain
haar na khaana maar na khaana baaki jo bhi de
arre aayegi hi ab to wo jo aane vali hai
ik baat suni hai chaacha ji
batlaane waali hai
ghar mein ek anokhi cheez aane waali hai
haan re bhaiya ne phir koyi ladki dekhi hai
teri chaachi bulldozer
aane waali hai
