“Geet” (1944) was produced by A R Kardar and directed by S U Sunny. The movie had Chanda, Shahu Modak, Nirmala, Amir Ali, Shakir Ali, A Shah, Zahid Ali etc in it.

Here is the first song from this movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Only the audio of this song is available, so it is difficult to guess how the song was picturised. Going by the audio, it appears to be a dance song, though.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Saaqi saaqi dil bujh hi gaya hai seene mein (Geet)(1944) Singer-Zohrabai Ambalewaali, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-Naushad

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

saaqi
saaqi
dil bujh hi gaya hai seene mein
kuchh lutf nahin abb jeene mein
saaqi
saaqi

saaqi tere jaam wo jaam nahin
kya rakhha hai abb peene mein
saaqi tere jaam wo jaam nahin
kya rakhha hai abb peene mein
saaqi
saaqi

saaqi pehli si baat nahin
pehle din pehli raat nahin
jab tera hi wo haath nahin
jab tera hi wo haath nahin
kya rakhha hai phir peene mein
saaqi saaqi

ab saawan ke din beet gaye
ham haar gaye tum jeet gaye
saaqi jab chhod ke meet gaye
saaqi jab chhod ke meet gaye
kuchh lutf nahin phir jeene mein
saaqi
saaqi
dil bujh hi gaya hai seene mein
kuchh lutf nahin ab jeene mein
saaqi
saaqi

Sound very modern for a 1944 number.
