It is always a refreshing change to find songs that deal with day to day concerns of movie goers. And what is a more day to day concern for young ones than their studies. Tender minds of young students have struggled to cope with intricacies of their subject for many generations. 🙂

Here is a song from over half a century ago. It turns out that the students of those days also found it tough to cope with their subjects. In this song, school kids talk about their difficulties in understanding subjects like geography, history, science and English. Hindi is the only subject they feel at home in. 🙂

To be fair, the textbooks of those days were not very easy to follow and even the teachers used to be dreaded creatures those days. Pupils were afraid of asking questions in case they did not understand something.

With time, the courses have become even more vast. School kids now study topics that were taught in colleges in the past decades. People who are not into lecturing about the greatness of their old days will agree that they had it considerably easy in those day as compared to the present day students.

Here is this forgotten song from "Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere" (1960). this song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur, Kamal Barot and chorus. The song is picturised on several kids playing school children. I am unable to identify any of them. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.

Shakeel Nomani is the lyricist. Kalyanji Anandji composed the music.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Lyrics (Provided by Atif M)

ek do
dus

ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus

ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus

gudiya chalaaye motor
budhiya ne khaayi thokar
hum bhi kahen
tum bhi kaho huye baarah
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
lallo laa
la la la oopar se aayi bus
lallo laa
la la la oopar se aayi bus

geography mein raste tedhe
hum ko dikha diye hain
hum ko dikha diye hain
aur history mein shaahi ghode
dekho dauda diye hain

dekho dauda diye hain
dil na lage hamaara
apna sabaq hai pyaara
hum bhi kahen
tum bhi kaho huye baarah
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
lallo la
lalala oopar se aayi bus
lallo la
lalala oopar se aayi bus

science kitni buri bala hai
atom bana ke chhoda

atom bana ke chhoda
duniya ki har ek khushi ko
kyun gham bana ke chhoda
kyun gham bana ke chhoda
hamein yeh nahin gawaara
apna sabaq hai pyaara
hum bhi kahen
tum bhi kaho huye baarah
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
lallo la
lalala ooper se aayi bus
lallo la
lalala ooper se aayi bus

kehna hamaara maano bhaiya
english ki chhodo git pit
english ki chhodo git pit
dard-e-sar yeh bani huyi hai
aapas mein hogi khit pit

aapas mein hogi khit pit
chamke hindi ka taara
apna sabaq hai pyaara
hum bhi kahen
tum bhi kaho huye baarah
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus

ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
gudiya chalaaye motor
budhiya ne khaayi thokar
hum bhi kahen
tum bhi kaho huye baarah
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
ek do dus
ooper se aayi bus
lalla la
la la la la la
laalla la
la la la la la

Baby Shobha Jayant and Master Shree Kumthekar
Ever wondered even now why pupil are afraid to ask questions. Its is for the simple reason that they do not have questions to question.
Let me explain:
Every day a new chapter is taught. Now unless you have read the same chapter at home a day before, you are totally blank. Minds will raise question when you know at least something. The teacher should declare upfront everyday which chapter she/he is going to teach tomorrow and challenge the students that she will ask questions.
Every student fears that if he asks question, he may become the laughing stock of the class. But the poor guy does not know that every student is rowing in the same boat !!!
Students must be made aware of the importance of each subject. ie
Maths: This helps in day to day activities like buying in the market you need to know the rates, calculation of discount % offered. at later stage trogonometry will be required for designing areoplanes; calculus for process industries etc.
Even many adults shun simple maths. They go to the main market to buy 1 kg of veggie. He is quoted eg Rs 3.25 per 2.5kg(because it is main market). Now how to calculate 1 kg rate. The bhajiwalla immediately senses that the seth does not know his maths. He says 1.50. You try to divide and find the for 1.5kg it is 1.62 approx. Now how to find 1 kg rate. He gives up and hand over 1.50 which is more than 20 paise.
Now the bhajiwalla is not foolish to divide(they do not know division at all). he uses X sign. He calculates 5 kg rate then 10 kg rate then shift the decimal and arrives at the magic figure; good example of necessity is the mother of invention. Pity, even the teachers need to be taught.
Coming to the subjects again:
Geography:It makes us aware of the countries…I have seen people traveling in long distance trains without knowing the route of the train and end up asking silly and stupid questions
History: It shows what mistakes the rulers had made so that history does not repeat. My better half fav joke; history badi bewafa, raat me padhi din me safa!!!!
