Genius of Jaidev

Asha-ji had released an album of her songs as a tribute to MD Jaidev, where she gave number of songs that ware recorded but never utilized or published. She also requested Amol Palekar to let her include some of the numbers from his unfinished films. I have no information and am in total dark about Amolkar Palekar’s unfinished film ‘Footpath’, from which today’s song is posted. I request some knowledgeable members like Arun-ji to shed some light to it. (Tamaso ma Jyotir gamaya)
Remembering and praising Jaidev-ji, Asha mentioned in her tribute:
“Unke jaisa sangeetkar na thhaa na hoga. Unki style hi alag thi. Unke gaane, laya mein gaane ke liye bahut hi kathin the, aur taane? Naa jaane kahan se kahan le jaate the, par wohi unki ‘pahechaan’ thi.”
(There was never a music director like him, nor there will be another one like him. He had a style of his own. Singing his songs in proper “laya” (tempo) was extremely tough. And what to say about his “taans”? He could make them traverse from one uncharted area to another area, and that was what separated him from others.)
The soothing lullaby like song is written by Naqsh Layalpuri and Asha sings it in her inimitable style which can mesmerize the listeners any time.

Ashaji’s versatility is radiating from the entire song. Thanks Bharatbhai for presenting such a good number….and Jaidev ji’s composition is beyond compare. Absolute masterpiece!
