So, we reached yet another century of songs yesterday (16 august 2014), viz song number 10100. After the great excitement and anticipation associated with the 10,000th song, this next century song almost went unnoticed. 🙂 In one of the few comments that were made in it, it was mentioned by Raja that the 10k th song appeared to have been posted just a few days back. In reality that was four weeks back. So this century took nearly one month and that is slow going by the standards of this blog.
This current post too is a “special” post as it has a special number viz. 10101, as pointed out by Sudhir Jee. 🙂
Regulars of the blog may be noticing that I am discussing one Zohrabai Ambalewaali song everyday for the last several days. Sudhir Jee had definitely noticed it and he had enquired from me whether her tally of songs had reached a high enough number for us to coincide her 100th post with the blog’s 10100th post. I had replied that she was still about 10 songs adrift from her century mark. And we posted Madan Mohan’s 400th composition in the blog to coincide with blog’s 10100th post.
While searching for Zohrabai Ambalewaali’s songs, I have to spend considerable time to look for songs that have not been posted. Most songs sung by her appear to be already posted in the blog and I have to look for songs as yet undiscussed. I am coming across less heard/ rare songs of Zohrabai Ambalewaali. And these songs are so nice to listen to that I consider them worthy of being held back for the century post. But if I hold them all back then how is she going to reach that mark ? 🙂 So I have no option but to keep discussing these gems one by one.
Here is a lovely song from “Hamjoli”(1946). This movie was directed by Ismail Memon and Lukman Ahmad for K Abdullah Productions, Bombay. The movie had Noorjahaan, Jairaj, Ghulam Mohammad, Jillobai, Mukri, Zeenat, Agha Jaan etc in it. Most songs from this movie were sung by Noorjahaan. The name of the singer of this song is not mentioned in HFGK, but it is clear from listening to the song that it is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali.
Anjum Pilibhiti is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hafiz Khan.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
