Regulars may have noticed that I have discussed lots of Suraiyya songs in the recent past and now we have reached close to her total tally of HFM songs that she sang. In my previous writeup on Suraiyya, I had given some figures about her songs. Here, in this writeup, I give the findings of my research on Suraiyya songs.
Two lists of Suraiyya songs exist online. One is the list of cineplot and another is the list of myswar. HFGK is the basic source material for both these lists, but still the two lists vary from each other in some respects and come up with different tallies.
We in this blog posted Suraiyya songs without consulting any lists. Once we reached the double century of Suraiyya earlier this year, I decided that I needed to post the remaining songs of Suraiyya at a faster rate. I was informed about the cineplot list of Suraiyya songs and I referred to this list quite often while looking for Suraiyya songs to post.
I became aware about the myswar list just a few days ago through a comment on my last article on Suraiyya. I have now gone through the content of this list also.
While searching for Suraiyya songs based on the abovementioned list, I found some errors of different natures which had remained uncorrected and as such the tallies shown in the list were not correct. I was able to detect these discrepancies because I went through each of these songs minutely in the process of listening to these songs.
Nitin Shah sent me tons of Suraiyya songs once I decided to discuss them regularly. His contributions in this mission of posting all Suraiyya songs has been immense.
Based on both the lists and after ignoring incorrect/ duplicate entries, I have come to the conclusion that the total number of HFM songs that Suraiyya sang in her two decades long career (1942-1963) stands at 324.
The full details of all her songs, giving the yaerwise list of movies and the number of songs sung by her in the movie are given in the following table. Figures like (7/8) means that 7 Suraiyya songs have been discussed in the blog while 8 songs were sung by Suraiyya.

| 1961 | 1 | Shama(3/3) | 3 | 3 | 0 |
| 1963 | 1 | Rustam Sohrab(1/1) | 1 | 1 | 0 |
Note:- The six songs of “Amar Kahaani”(1949), a Suraiyya starrer movie, were reused in “Kanchan” (1955), a non Suraiyya movie which is not mentioned here as it would result in duplication of the same songs.
myswar, in their listing of Suraiyya songs erroneously mention four non Suraiyya songs as Suraiyya songs, viz. (1) one song from “Shama” (1961) Shaguftagi ka latafat ka (actually sung by Nimmi), (2) Kitne door hain huzoor (Pyaar Ki Jeet)(1948) actually sung by Surinder Kaur, (3) “Kashmir Hamaara Hai”(1948) song with lyrics “Dile Naadaan tujhe hua kya hai”, a song whose singers are not known has been attributed to Suraiyya and Talat Mehmood just because they have sung a song with identical lyrics in “Mirza Ghalib” (1954) (4) One song “Ye rang birangi dor” from “Mazdoor” (1945), actually sung by Amirbai Karnataki and Manna Dey has been attributed to Suraiyya.
“Omar Khayyam” (1946) had four Suraiyya songswhich I had failed to coun t earlier. These four songs are not available as of now.
Cineplot listing contains the songs of “Amar Kahaani”(1949) as well as “Kanchan”(1955), thus counting the same songs twice. Cineplot also counts version songs of “Shama” (1946) which were got recorded in Suraiyya’s voice which had nothing to do with the movie. I have not counted these version songs. Cineplot also mentions two songs of “Tajmahal” (1941) and one additional song of “Station Master” (1942) as containing Suraiyya’s voice. HFGK do not mention these songs as Suraiyya songs and so I have not considered these songs in my list. I am not sure if anyone has heard the two songs of Suraiyya in “Tajmahal” (1941). I have heard the “Station Master” (1942) song (ye rail hamaare ghar ki) which is mentioned as a Rajkumari Suraiyya duet. That song is in fact sung by Raj Kumari, Prem Adib and chorus. So if Suraiyya’s voice is there, it has to be in the chorus and it cannot be described as a Suraiyya song. Cineplot listing has some other mistakes too, viz counting one Suraiyya song from “Kamal Ke Phool” (1950) as two separate Suraiyya songs and counting a Shamshad Begam song as a Suraiyya song. Suraiyya has sung five songs in “Kaajal” (1948) according to HFGK, but cineplot mentions a sixth Suraiyya song (Pardesi re jaate) which does not seem to exist going by my search. One Suraiyya song of “Phool” (1945)has been counted twice. Likewise, one Suraiyya song in “Laal Kunwar” (1952) has been counted twice. In “Parwaana” (1947), a K L Saigal song “Toot gaye sab sapne mere” has been counted as a Suraiyya song.
In Summary, I have counted a grand total of 324 Suraiyya songs that She has sung in HFM. 302 of them have been discussed in the blog, counting each multiple version song as two songs. But we in this blog count multiple version songs as one song since they are discussed in one writeup, so our count is lesser than what it should be. so we are at 299 Suraiyya songs in the blog because we have had 299 writeups for songs sung by Suraiyya. So this writeup is the 300th and by our definition this is the 300th Suraiyya song in the blog.
Before we discuss the 300th Suraiyya song, here is the list of 22 Suraiyya songs that remain to be discussed. A few of them are available. Hopefully we will be able to locate the remaining songs as well.

| 1945 | 5 | Naina baawre pi bina (Phool), Ab dwaar pe aayi hai (Phool), Chakori chanda ke angna (Samrat Chandragupta), O udne waale panchhi (Tadbeer) Tumne na suna jisko (Tadbeer) the song under discussion |
| 1947 | 1 | Taaron bhari raat hai sajan (Naatak) |
| 1949 | 1 | Koi jaane waale se keh do (Chaar Din) |
| 1950 | 1 | O pardesi balma(Shaan) |

| 1955 | 2 | Najoomi hoon main kismat ka(Inaam) Tadbeer ka ho teer(Inaam) |
| 1958 | 2 | Sajna jaa main naahin boloon(Maalik) Morey man ki baat(Trolley Driver) |
Now, here is the 300th Suraiyya song (or rather post) in the blog. This song is one of the two as yet elusive songs from “Tadbeer” (1945). This song is sung by Suraiyya. Swami Ramanand is the lyricist. Music is composed by Lal Muhammad.
With this song, we reach a major landmark blog because Suraiyya is now on the verge of becoming the second major singer (after K L Saigal) who will have all her available HFM songs available in this blog. A few of the 22 missing songs are available with me. I request our knowledgeable readers to look out for these songs are inform us when they sight these elusive Suraiyya numbers.

Song-Tumne na suna jisko (Tadbeer)(1945) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Swami Ramanand, MD-Lal Muhammad
Lyrics
tumne na suna jisko
jo hamen sunaata thha
ashqon ki kahaani thhi
aahon ka fasaana thha
tumne na suna jisko
ab khaaq hua wo dil
ab khaaq hua wo dil
barbaad hua wo dil
barbaad hua wo dil
jismein teri aankhon ka
jismein teri aankhon ka
barson se thhikaana thha
tumne na suna jisko
tab dil bhi milaate thhe
haaye
tab dil bhi milaate thhe
haaye
ab aankh churaate ho
ab aankh churaate ho
ye kaisa zamaana hai
wo kaisa zamaana thha
tumne na suna jisko
beshaq na mila wo dil
beshaq na mila wo dil
itna to bataao tum
itna to bataao tum
kyun pyaar badhaaya thha
haaye
jab ?? ke jaan thha
tumne na suna jisko
jo hamen sunaata thha

You have already covered 3 songs from Ishaara (1943), not just 2:
-baagon mein koyal
-panghat pe muraliya
-shabnam kyun neer bahaye
So ur count becomes 324 right there.
now if u want to include rang rangeela phagun as per Cineplot, that would become no 325.
baagon mein koyal with its duet and solo version should be counted twice like all other version songs in the list. and so count becomes 326.

I think this is a very accurate account of Suraiya Songs. Our count is 325 because we count the duet/solo versions of Baaghon Mein Koyal from Ishaara (1943) as 2 separate songs instead of 1 like u r doing. Also noticed from ur table that u have stated one song from Ishaara is still in balance, but I think u have covered all 3 songs:

Atul ji,
Many Thanks for the elegant post , the tables and the statistics.
A minor clarification please.
The list of missing songs add up to 18 out of which one is the 300th song discussed. So that leaves with 17 as per the table. So what is this “22” figure.
Lastly in either case, it will be better if readers are put to task to search only for the songs that you don’t have as you say some are available with you.

mahesh
