I am sure that quite a few regulars of this blog must be wondering why an Amitabh Bachchan song had not appeared so far, seeing that today is his 72nd birthday (DOB 11 october 1942). As it is, I typically work up from older songs to newer ones in a day. I have discussed four songs of 1940s and 1950s today whereas Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in Hindi movies only in late 1960s. 🙂
It is evening by the time I am able to make it to the decade of 1970s. And that explains why an Amitabh Bachchan song has not appeared so far. Well, better late than never, as new say. Here is one of the first song and dance numbers that Amitabh Bachchan even figured in in Hindi movies. This delightful song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. The song is picturised on Aruna Irani and Amitabh Bachchan, both being newcomers who were hoping to make it big in Hindi movie industry.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
The song has some lines in Konkani that is sung by chorus. I request our knowledgeable readers familiar with the language to tell us what these lines are.
“Bombay To Goa” (1972), a laugh riot par excellence is the movie that this song belongs to.
YT link of this song include some comments that make fun of Amitabh Bachchan’s dancing in this song. It is to be kept in mind that those were early days for him and it would take his another three years (and several flop movies) before the tide would turn in his favour and he would turn the corner. People these days look at his success but most people would do well to look at the movies from 1970 to 1973 to appreciate the hard yards that he had to go through before he began to reap the dividends.
Here is this lovely song from 42 year ago that brings back fond memories of the era gone by. And we wish Amitabh Bachchan a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day.

Aha!!!! Kitne saalon baad ye gaana suna. Very popular song on radio. Agree with Atulji about Amitji’s dancing style in his early movies and the way he changed the industry from mid 70s. Very respected celebrity today in Hindi Film Industry not only by generation of 70s but all before and after that period. (proof is KBC where u can see people of all ages love him) My kids love and respect him a lot. All three would just say one thing HE HAS A PRESENCE . 🙂
