Today (19 october 2014) is the 58th birth anniversary of Sunny Deol (DoB 19 october 1956). He is an actor from the post golden era and he worked in movies that I regard as “new” movies. To realise that a post golden era actor (and the son of a golden era actor) like him has turned 58 now means that time has flown faster than I realise. 🙂 In fact this is the era when children of post golden era of Hindi movies are active !
Sunny Deol, like most star sons of 1980s had made his debut with a love story namely “Betaab”(1984). This movie was not as big a hit as “Love story” (1980) with Kumar Gaurav as the debutant star son, but unlike Kumar Gaurav, Sunny Deol went on to have a long and steady career in Hindi movies without ever reaching the top. That way his career was much like Dharmendra, his illustrious father.
To my mind Sunny Deol will forever be remembered for his role as a lawyer in “Daamini” (1993) with his impressive hard hitting dialogues like “Ye dhhaai kilo ka haath” and “date per date, date per date…” etc. “Chaalbaaz” (1989) is another movie that I fondly recall. I had watched these two movies in small town ramshackle movie halls and I loved the ambience surrounding the screening of these movies. 🙂
On the occasion of Sunny Deol’s birth anniversary, here is a song from Samundar. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is picturised as an over the top, unsubtle teasing song on Sunny Deol and Poonam Dhillon.

45yrs old Dharmendra married 32 yrs old Hema Malini, when Sunny was 24! HaHa! No wonder he tried to beat up his father!
