Hello Atuldom

“Awaam” (1987) was produced by B.R. Chopra and Ravi Chopra. It was directed by B.R. Chopra and had dialogues by Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza.
It had Ashok Kumar, Shafi Inamdar, Iftikhar, Om Shivpuri and Shreeram Lagoo playing friends, and past freedom-fighters who are living on benefits that freedom-fighters used to get. Additionally, Shafi Inamdar, Om Shivpuri and Shreeram Lagoo are politicians in post-independence India and Shafi Inamdar’s character is shown to be hand-in-glove with anti-national (Gaddaar) elements and Om Shivpuri being happy reaping benefits of the Gaddaars.

Rajesh Khanna played the son of the straight-forward Iftikhar and is shown to worship Ashok Kumar. Then there are Deepak Parashar and Raj Babbar who are Rajesh Khanna’s friends. Poonam Dhillon & Smita Patil are the female characters who are slightly more than glamour dolls. There is Nana Patekar who plays an Army officer who has engaged Rajesh Khanna (an infantry man) to look into the activities of the corrupt people. Oh, I forgot to mention Maneesha kohli (character actor Dev Kumar’s daughter) played a negative character with some good dance numbers featuring her. Plus Vijay Arora, Chandrashekhar, Saeed Jaffery, Satish Shah, Rita Rani Kaul, Ashalata and Sushma Seth form the supporting cast. (As we can see it was a multi, multi-starrer).

So that is the story of the movie in short. But the movie itself was 2 & 1/2 hours long with a few people being eliminated every time the cover of the Gaddaars is blown. I know also this because my favourite D2H channel is having a festival of BR Chopra films this week- to remember the producer-director on his birth anniversary which is on 22nd April; he would have been 108. They have aired Ittefaq, Agni Pariksha, Karm, Awam and Afsana is scheduled for tomorrow. Some really ‘Hatke’ movies have been selected, and not the oft-repeated Naya Daur, Baghban, The Burning Train etc. And since it is a BR Chopra film festival I am sure that the channel must have been spoilt with a large library to choose from.

I discovered a few interesting tit-bits as I sat to write this post.

1) this was B R Chopra’s final film as director. Then he made Mahabharat the television series.
2) for about 36 years Ashok Kumar and B R Chopra worked together starting with Chopra’s first film Afsana in 1951.
3) Iftikhar was a permanent in Chopra’s films for 30 years and this was the last time they worked together.
4) Rajesh Khanna acted in a BR Chopra film after 10 years in ‘Awam’; Karm was in 1977.
5) from ‘Gumrah’ to ‘Awam’ Ravi gave music for BR Chopra films for 25 years. This was their last together.
6) This was Smita Patil’s last movie. She had completed shooting her scenes and dubbing was left. Rekha dubbed for Smita’s character.

Today’s song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor & Asha Bhonsle and Rajesh Khanna & Poonam lip-sync. Hasan Kamal was the lyricist.

With this post we can also wish the beautiful Poonam on turning 60 a few days back. April 18th was her birthday. It is hard to imagine that she is 60. All the best to her for great times ahead.

Hullo Atuldom

The song in this post is the perfect candidate for the “how come this song was not posted earlier” category. It being the most popular song of the film. There have been three songs posted on the blog, out of eight (I think) that this movie has, and this song is mentioned in at least two of these posts.

Avinash ji, in his post of the song “Jeene Ko To Jeete Hain Sabhi“, wondered how today’s song missed a place in that year’s Top 30 of the famous Binaca Geetmala.

Nahm ji has given the complete story of this movie in her post of the song “Mil Gayeen Aaj Do Lehren“. She has also pointed towards the connection between the song in that post with today’s song.

The movie had made it’s debut on the blog with the song “Maine Tujhe Kabhi Kuchh Kaha Tha“.

I am talking of ‘Ye Vaada Raha’ (1982) which was directed by Kapil Kapoor for Rose Movies, Bombay. It was produced by Ramesh Behl. It had Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Poonam Dhillon, Sarika, Rakhi, Rakesh Bedi, Iftekhar, Agha, Sundar, Gulshan Bawra, Hari Shivdasani, and others. Shammi Kapoor made a special appearance in this movie. The film has six (but I think I have counted eight songs because one is a multi-version song) songs penned by Gulshan Bawra and composed to music by Rahul Dev Burman.

Revisiting ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa’ today on the occasion of Gulshan Bawra’s birth anniversary. He would have been 85 today. He was associated with many popular songs in his career – songs which were tuned by Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal, RD Burman and other music composers of the 70s, 80s and 90s. The last movie for which he penned songs was the Akshay Kumar- Twinkle Khanna starrer ‘Zulmi’ which released in 1999. It had music by Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen; he had also appeared on the screen in this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle with Rishi performing a waltz with an imaginary partner and then Poonam joins him. The video that I found on YouTube has all the versions stitched together. So, the second part of the song begins 3 minutes into the video where Tina Munim is reminiscing her days with Rishi Kapoor. I am unable to find videos where the three versions are separate.

On this blog we often celebrate anniversaries of various artists of Hindi Films and Hindi Film Music. Time to time we also celebrate birthdays of our team members who are also known as ‘Atulites’. So today we are celebrating birthday of two Atulites and one well-wisher of this blog (read as ‘family members of the team members 😊).

This post is to wish Atulites Pradeep Raghunathan ji and Peevesie’s Mom ji a very happy birthday today. On behalf of all team members, I wish them a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day. Also today is the birthday of my wife. So, we wish her too a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day 😊 (she also has her ‘hand’ behind me – and she also has her share in my being a successful ‘Atulite’ for the last nine years four months… 😊)

As is customary for us, we will now listen to a song which suits today’s occasion perfectly. This is a ‘birthday celebration song’. It is from the ‘1989’ movie ‘Saaya’. I was not aware either of the song or this movie. I came across this song only a couple of days back (when I was looking for a birthday song).

‘Saaya-1989’ was directed by R. Keshu (I guess he is Keshu Ramsay) for ‘Century Films’. It was produced by Naval Kumar and presented by R.C. Kumar.

It had Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Dhillon, Danny Denzongpa, with Pinchoo Kapoor, Viju Khote, Beena, Baby Tabassum, supported by Iftekhar, Anjali Sen, Shammi, Sudhir Dalvi, Darshan, Prakash and Kaajal Kiran.

Story and screenplay of this movie was written by Kumar Ramsay. Dialogues for this movie were written by Jagdish Kanwal. Shafi Ur Rahman was associate dialogue writer for this movie.

Editing of this movie was done by Bal Korde.

Lyrics for the songs in this movie were written by Anjaan and music was composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Asha Bhonsle, Nazia Hassan, Zoheb, Uttara Kelkar, and Munna were those whose voices was used for the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Poonam Dhillon lip-syncs the song on screen. Shatrughan Sinha and Baby Tabassum (whose birthday is being celebrated) are also seen alongwith many others.

Let us now enjoy this beautiful song and wish the birthday boys and birthday girls a very happy birthday today and a healthy and peaceful life ahead …

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Naam-1986’.

‘Naam-1986’ may be a recent movie by the standard of this blog, but it made it’s debut on the blog long time back or precisely in the initial months of the blog and that was on 03.11.2008.

Its’ most popular song Chitthi aayi hai aayi hai chitthi aayi hai was posted on the blog on 03.11.2008.

‘Naam-1986’ was directed by Mahesh Bhatt for ‘Aryan Films’.

It was produced by Kumar Gaurav and presented by Rajendra Kumar. It had Nutan, Kumar Gaurav, Sanjay Dutt, Poonam Dhillon, Amrita Singh, Pankaj Udhas with Paresh Rawal, Aakash Khurana, Ram Mohan etc in it.

Story, screenplay, and dialogues of this movie were written by Salim Khan. Editing of this movie was done by David Dhawan.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.08.1986.

This movie had six songs (including one multiple version song) written by Anand Bakshi and music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Lata Mangeshkar, Pankaj Udhas, Manhar Udhas, Mohammed Aziz and Kavita Krishnamurthy had given their voices to the songs of this movie.

Today we are going to listen the second song from this movie sung by Mohammed Aziz and lip-synced on screen by Kumar Gaurav.

I had watched this movie during my stay at Parli Vaijnath then in 1986. Though I do not remember much about this movie now. The today’s song seems to be a party song where paintings of ‘people suffering in poverty and hunger’ are seen to be displayed.

We can see Poonam Dhillon and others present their while Kumar Gaurav performs on this song.

I think all the songs from this movie are good songs to listen and they were all quite popular too, ‘chitthi aayi hai’ being the most popular among them.

Let us now listen to today’s song, the second song of this movie on the blog, appearing after a gap of twelve years, five months, and fifteen days (or 4550 days including 17.04.2021) since its first song on the blog.

The journey continues … with many miles to go …

And here it arrives … our musical bandwagon …Wishing you all a very ‘Happy New Year-2021’!!!
Let us all be safe, healthy, peaceful and enjoying music wherever we are!!!

We start our journey with this lovely song which is saying ‘din pyaar ke aayenge’ and though here the expressions are of a lover for her love, the message we wish to convey is for all of us or rather for all on this globe – the mankind, the humanity, the nature, the environment, and for our ecological existence. Let the love blossoms and we all enjoy our stay here and do good for others as possible.

Trains have been part of our movies since long and there are many song sequences and scenes picturised on the trains or having trains at the back drop. It will be interesting to study those movies and how effectively trains/railways have been used in various movies. I had started to note down some movie names and looking for this subject landed me on this article here.

It was only during the ‘pandemic’ that this ‘lifeline of the nation’ was stopped, and passenger services had to be discontinued. It never happened earlier in the history of this nation not even during the ‘war’ period.
But now gradually things are coming back to normal and I wish that the ‘normal’ is restored soon in the months to come.

Let us hope that this ‘lifeline of the Nation’ is back to full swing again.

I have always loved the ‘train journeys’ since my childhood and even now I feel it very nostalgic to visit railway stations and travel by train. I wonder, if I still have these feelings that I am excited to see the trains, how the peoples who are staying in the hills and still have not travelled by train or not seen them would feel if they get this opportunity.

Let us also contribute to the safety our ‘lifeline’ and care for its assets. Let us protect it and discourage those who try to damage this national property.

Let us now enjoy this wonderful song composed by Pancham Da who have given us some gems of trains songs viz. ‘zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hai jo makaam’ and others. Lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
This is from the ‘1986’ movie ‘Sawere Waali Gaadi’ … ‘din pyaar ke aayenge sajaniyaa’

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 14
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

An iconic song from 1965 – absoute gem, absolutely unforgettable. “Kaanton Se Kheench Ke Ye Aanchal. . . Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai” from the 1965 film ‘Guide’. Created by the greats of that era – Shailendra, SD Burman and Lata Mangeshkar. And coming from a film directed by Vijay Anand, one is assured that the picturization would be superlative, which it surely is. The song continues to sustain its beauty even after more than five decades. It is such a genuine treat both visually and aurally.

Eighteen years after this song came into being, it was used again in the 1983 film ‘Qayaamat’. This film is one of the plethora of crime-and-punishment films that crowded the screens during the 1980s and 90s. The main roles are played by Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Smita Patil, Jayaprada and Poonam Dhillon. Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha are close friends. But there is a falling out in their friendship, when Dharmendra is sent to jail, and he holds his police officer friend responsible for it. On returning from jail, he seeks to avenge himself for something that he considers as injustice meted out to him.

I have not seen the film and so will not be able to comment on the sequencing of this song within the storyline. Apparently, Jayaparada is the love interest of Dharmendra, and she appears in flashback in the movie. So there is some tragedy also related here. The occasion for the song is the birthday party of Shatrughan Sinha. Dharmendra is calling on a phone line to greet his friend. He finds out that Smita is about to sing a song at the party. He requests his friend to keep the phone line open so that he can listen. Then the song starts. It starts in the party, and almost immediately Dharmendra rewinds to the past where he sees Jayaprada singing in a very picturesque hillside setting. Rest of the song plays out in this flashback, returning to the party just moments before it ends.

Personally speaking, the song and its theme does not seem to fit into the birthday setting or even the hillside flashback interlude. It seems like force fitted, and completely out of place. But then that is just me.

The song has been reused in its original form. It is not re-recorded. So we get to enjoy the original audio, picturized on a different set of actors, in a different setting.

This song was identified and suggested by our dear Satyajit Rajurkar ji, for inclusion in this series. Thanks Satyajit ji.

Song – Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai  (Qayaamat) (1983) Singers – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Shailendra, MD – SD Burman

Lyrics

ho o o
kaanton se kheench ke ye aanchal

tod ke bandhan baandhi paayal
ho o
koi na roko dil ki udaan ko
dil wo chalaa
aa aa aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai

apne hi bas mein nahin main
dil hai kahin to hoon kahin main
ho o o
apne hi bas mein nahin main
dil hai kahin to hoon kahin main
ho o o
jaane kya paake meri zindagi ne
hans kar kaha
haa haa haa aa ha aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai

main hoon gubaar yaa toofaan hoon
koi bataaye main kahaan hoon
ho o o
main hoon gubaar yaa toofaan hoon
ko
i bataaye main kahaan hoon
ho o o
dar hai safar mein kahin kho na jaaun main
rastaa nayaa
a a aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai

kal ke andheron se nikal ke
dekha hai aankhen malte malte
ho o o
kal ke andheron se nikal ke
dekha hai aankhen malte malte
ho o o
phool hi phool zindagi bahaar hai
tay kar liyaa
a a aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai

“Aapas Ki Baat”(1981) was produced by Salim Akhtar and directed by Harmesh Malhotra for Citizen Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Shakti Kapoor, Bharat Kapoor, Huma Khan, Narendranath, Asrani, Dina Pathak, Purnima, Abhi Bhattacharya, Kalpana Iyer, Madhu Malhotra, Bhushan Tiwari, Janaki Dass, Ajay, Sunder, Azad Irani, Rammurti Chatrurvedi, Sunder Taneja, Dolly, Khushboo, Moolchand, Kirti,Goga Kapoor etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. One song from the movie has been covered in the past.

Today (4 october 2019) is the 67th birthday of Shailendra Singh (DoB 4 october 1952). It is so unbelievable to realise that he is 67 years old. It appears only yesterday that he had made his debut as a playback singer in “Bobby”(1973) as a 20 year old playback singer !

On this occasion, here is a song from “Aapas Ki Baat”(1981). This song is sung by Shailendra Singh and Lata. Dayanath Pandey is the lyricist. Music is composed by Anu Malik.

The song is picturised as an expression of love song on Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Kehni hai do baaaten tumse (Aapas Ki Baat)(1981) Singers-Shailendra Singh, Lata, Lyrics-Dayanath Pandey, MD-Anu Malik

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

kehnee hai do baatein tumse
magar kahoongaa kaanon mein
jo tum kehnaa nahin kisee se
apne yaa begaanon mein
kaanon mein toh chor hai kehte
aap bhi koyee chor hain kyaa
soorat se ho bhole bhaale
andhar se kuchch aur hain kyaa

kehnee hai
kehte raho

baat hawaayein le udti hain
abhi tujhe maaloom nahin
teri tarhaa se har koyee hai
jaan-e-mann maasoom nahin

kaun see baat pehle kahoon
dil ki yaa haseen khwaab ki
ho
baat seedhee si hamse karo
yeh paheli hai kyaa aapki

paas aao toh phir hum bataayein
dhadhkanon ki zubaan se sunaayein
kehnee hai do baatein tumse
magar kahoongaa kaanon mein
jo tum kehnaa nahin kisee se
apne yaa begaanon mein
kaanon mein toh chor hain kehte
aap bhi koyee chor hain kyaa
soorat se ho bhole bhaale
andar se kuchch aur hain kyaa

kehnee hai
kehte raho

dil ki baat hai kehnaa mushkil
khwab ki hi baat bataayein
itnaa pyaaraa thaa woh sapnaa
bhoole se bhi bhool naa paayen
aaa….haaa…aaaa…aaaa
ik paree dekhi maine utarte
taaron ki raah se dheere dheere
aankhon mein thi chamak neelam ki
thhe angoothhee mein bhi uske heere
haath se usne apne utaaree
hubahoo shakl soorat tumhaari
aaahha..haaa.haa..haa..haa…haaaa
ussne pehnaayee phir tumko hogi
ho gaye hoge pal bhar mein
jogi
ussne chaahaa hogaa jab bhi jaanaa
raah badhke wahin roki hogee

arre toone yeh sab kaise jaanaa
haath apnaa zaraa yeh dikhaanaa
naa.naa.naaa..aaa
ab kahoge yehi hai angoothhi
baat bilkul magar hai yeh jhoothhi
tum toh jhoothhe ho ek numbree
naa thaa sapnaa na koyee paree
tum chale thhe ham hi ko banaane
dekh ke mast mausam suhaane

kehnee hai do baatein tumse
magar kahoongaa kaanon mein
jo tum kehnaa nahin kissee se
apne yaa begaanon mein
kaanon mein toh chor hai kehte
aap bhi koyee chor hain kyaa
soorat se ho bhole bhaale
andar se kuch aur hai kyaa

Blog Day : 3822 Post No. : 14822

Hullo to all of Atuldom 🙂

At the outset I must wish all the followers of Atulsongaday a happy and music-filled 2019.

January 4th is one of the dates for which I just have to write a song, with or without a post. How can I miss remembering our very own R D Burman- not that we can escape his music on other days, right? Every second song that plays in our mind would invariably be a Pancham composition specially if we have grown up in the 70s or 80s. Even those who subscribe to the view that the music of the 70s or the later years was not a patch on the music of the golden era would grudgingly say they love “chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko”; “mere naina saawan bhadon”; “kya hua tera waada”; “jis gali mein tera ghar na ho balama”; “abhi toh haath mein jaam hai” or “zindagi hai khel koi pass koi fail”. So, there is no escape from Panchamda or R D Burman and you have a song by him for any genre, mood occasion etc.

Panchamda’s music has helped the careers of so many actors and actresses; launched a few star kids and most often it used to be songs written by Majrooh or Anand Bakshi. But today I found an RD song written by Nida Fazli. I have been hearing and humming it since I had heard it for the first time in the 80s and for some reason presumed that it was written by Anand Bakshi (so much for my so-called knowledge about movies and HFM).

One of the reasons for my presumption could be that the hero of the movie was Randhir Kapoor. But that is also a misplaced assumption, as the scene stealer in the movie is or was Sanjeev Kumar and in a double-role too.

So here is the song from the 1981 RK Film’s (another assumption bursts here, all these years I thought Randhir Kapoor was the producer, turns out to be Raj Kapoor) “Biwi ‘o’ Biwi” directed by Rahul Rawail. This movie had all songs except one by Nida Fazli i.e. 5 out of 6 was by Nida and the last one by Vitthalbhai Patel. RD used Kishore Kumar, Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle for playback. Today’s song is by Kishore Kumar on Randhir Kapoor who is seen romancing Poonam Dhillon in front of all her friends which is headed by Prema Narayan.

I was trying to visualise how he would have looked today- at 80- if he had not left us all those years ago. He didn’t even wait to enjoy the success of “1942 a love story”. But I don’t want to push the readers’ mind into sadness as a song composed by RD or Panchamda- as people loved to call him – has always had the ability to bring the listener on to the dance floor.

jab bhi yeh mil gaye
pyaar ho gaya

mohan ki raadha hai,
majnu ki hai laila
har yug mein lagta hai
dilwaalon ka mela
mohan ki raadha hai,
majnu ki hai laila
har yug mein lagta hai
dilwaalon ka mela
ek se do huye
pyaar ho gaya
arre sadiyon se duniya mein yahi to kissa hai
ek hi toh ladki hai
ek hi toh ladka hai
jab bhi yeh mil gaye
pyaar ho gaya

patthar ki masjid ho
ya chaandi ki moorat
duniya mein pyaar bina koi nahin teerath
patthar ki masjid ho
ya chaandi ki moorat
duniya mein pyaar bina koi nahin teerath
dil se dil jab mile pyaar ho gaya
sadiyon se duniya mein yahi to kissa hai

jab bhi ye mil gaye
pyaar ho gaya

saagar ki oar chale
nadiya ghoonghat khole
bhanwara bhi kaliyon ke aage-peechhe dole
saagar ki oar chale

bhanwra bhi kaliyon ke aage-peechhe dole
faasle kam huye
pyaar ho gaya
sadiyon se duniya mein yahi to kissa hai
ek hi toh ladki hai

ASAD 10th Anniversary Celebrations – 13
———————————————————————

“Love is so short, forgetting is so long” – ah, this quote by Pablo Neruda! How true it is!! So simple yet so profound. . .  Don’t we all agree? Love, that feeling which each and every living being experiences for sure in its lifetime. Each one of us would have definitely celebrated it many times in our lives.

And this feeling is celebrated in this song too. Naqsh Lyallpuri, the lyricist puts it down so very simply. The pain of love is sweet and lovable. Its beautiful and it is the sustenance of two hearts that are in love. Love is serene and at the same time exciting. Lovers meet every day but that is inadequate, the longing to meet again remains. Hunger for the loved feeling, however much it is satisfied by these meetings, it remains. It is a feeling, a feeling forever. This is how the lyricist expresses the feeling in this song. His choice of words is simple, the lines are short but very effective in conveying the sentiment. Khayyaam, one of my favourite music composers has composed a distinctive kind of tune. The singing of Asha and Kishore is adorable.

Coming back to Pablo Neruda (12 Jul, 1904 – 23 Sep, 1973), the poet I alluded to in the beginning. He is a very well-known poet from Chile, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. He was also a diplomat and politician. This is a rare combination I feel, a poet and a politician!! Very unique. He is known for love poems. I found these lines by him fascinating.

He who does not travel, who does not read,
who does not listen to music,
who does not find grace in himself,
she who does not find grace in herself,
dies slowly.

Anybody that agrees with the quote? Yes, we do. At least, the majority of us. For few it is “Love is for lifetime etc.”. For people who don’t fall into either category, they should do this – “Miley Na Phool To Kaanton Se Dosti Kar Lee“.

Ah, this is the first song posted by our indefatigable Atul ji. From then to now, it is has been a decade. I am yet to find a person who is as consistent as Atul ji. His very able co-travellers, Sudhir ji and Arun ji are no less consistent. All these three are tireless wayfarers of the musical journey that is our blog. Arun ji is in fact the Bhishm Pitamah of Hindi Films. How can I forget the others? I cannot, they all contribute regularly. Each of them is unique in their own ways.  Unlike me who makes a guest appearance now and then!! Well, I was prodded by Sudhir ji into writing this. I feel grateful to him that he has not forgotten a nacheez like me. I am thankful to Raja ji for allowing to write on a song which he intended to write on. And to Avinash ji for providing the lyrics and all meta-data associated with song. And to Pradeep for being an inspiration. There I go accusing him again! Thank you all 😊

I am sure that the journey will continue until the end of our days on this beautiful Earth. Let us contradict Neruda now. Love for music is so long and cannot be forgotten. Neruda, are you listening? I am being a little cheeky 😉

Here is wishing the blog a long and musically fulfilled life!!

Blog Day : 3631 Post No. : 14457

Today 27th June (27th June, 1939 – 4th Jan, 1994) is the 79th birth anniversary of Rahul Dev Burman, whom we fondly remember as ‘Pancham’.

On this occasion here is a song from the 1985 Movie ‘Sitamgar’. Th film was directed by Raj N Sippy for Bikramjeet Films International, Bombay and produced by Bikram Singh Dehal. It had Dharmendra, Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Prem Chopra, Jagdish Raj, Gurbachan, Ranvir Raj, Azad, Tilak Mehta, Raj Kaul, Shamsuddin, Nath Kamle, Ved Akash, Ashok Gaekwad, Master Alankar and Baby Geeta. Narendra Nath, Sonia Shania and Sudhir make special appearance in this movie.

Ved Aakash and Pankaj Kharbanda were the Chief Assistant Directors of this movie. Ashok Gaekwad was the Associate Director for this movie. V.N. Mayekar was the editor while Sakharam Borse assisted him in editing. Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Mirza Brothers and dialogues were written by Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza. The movie was passed by the Censor Board on 08.03.1985.

This movie had six songs written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by RD Burman (Manohari, Babloo and Martin were assistants). Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

As the movie makes its debut on the blog today I can select only one song for today’s presentation. Going by the songs of this movie that I have already heard, I can say that some of them are very nice songs.

In 1985 the following movie with music composed by RD Burman were released,

  1. Rahi Badal Gaye
  2. Ram Tere Kitne Naam
  3. Hum Dono
  4. Ek Se Bhale Do
  5. Lava
  6. Zabardast
  7. Sitamgar
  8. Saagar
  9. Alag Alag
  10. Oonche Log
  11. Aawara Baap
  12. Arjun
  13. Hum Naujawan
  14. Shiva Kea Insaaf

From the above list one can easily understand that he was still there composing good music whereas it is said that he was passing through a lean phase and was overshadowed by other music directors during those years in the 1980s. Well, that is the subject for another post and so I am limiting my write-up for this presentation here only.

This movie also falls under one of my objective of ‘movie having the same title’. So far on the blog we have ‘Sitamgar’ from 1958 already launched earlier. As mentioned in HFGK Vol VI movie with same title was also released in 1934 & 1954, making it four times so where movies with same titles have been released. With today’s song, the film ‘Sitamgar’ of 1985 makes a debut on our blog.

Remembering Pancham Da today and his music let us move to the today’ song now. . .

Song – Hum Kitne Nadaan The Yaaro (Sitamgar) (1985) Singer – Kishore Kumar, Lyrics – Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD – RD Burman

Lyrics

ham kitne naadaan the yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana

ham kitne naadaan the yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana
sach hai agar to ek mohabbat
jhooth hai baaki saara fasaana
ham kitne naadaan the yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana

pad gaye jaise in aankhon pe
zulm ke nafrat ke parde
pad gaye jaise in aankhon pe
zulm ke nafrat ke parde
zindagi tera mujrim hoon main
ho sake to o maaf kar de
andhi raah ke andhe safar mein
beet gaya jeene ka zamaana
ham kitne naadaan the yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana

ab ye mohabbat ka
ehsaan hai
ye jo thhodi jaan hai mujhme
ab ye mohabbat ka
ehsaan hai
ye jo thhodi jaan hai mujhme
aap hi main jiska qaatil hoon
zindaa wo insaan hain mujhme
ham kitne naadaan thhe yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana
sach hai agar to ek mohabbat
jhooth hai baaki saara fasaana
ham kitne naadaan the yaaron
aaj ye samjhe
aaj ye jaana
