Rahul Dev Burman – Forgotten Songs – 2
———————————————

The second song of this series is a lovely duet from the 1973 film “Chhalia”. This movie was a United Movie Arts presentation, produced by Sudesh Raj Gupta and directed by Mukul Dutt. Cinematography is by K K Mahajan, songs are penned by Rajinder Krishan and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. The six songs are sung by Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Mukesh and Vani Jayram. Three of these songs are already posted here and this post will leave two more solos by Asha Bhosle to be posted.

The story of this movie is already detailed by Mr Arun Kumar Deshmukh, an extremely knowledgeable contributor in the comments of this song.

This song is immediately after the credit roll or lumbering (numbering) as it is called in colloquial Hyderabadi. It shows the hero Shankar (Navin Nischol) flirting around the trees and on the beaches/gardens with three ladies – Snehlata, Ashoo and Sanjana.

The song starts with a great saxophone piece by Pancham’s assistant Manohari Singh, followed by great piece of guitar work by Ramesh Iyer (probably or even singer Bhupender). It is a very catchy number and once true connoisseurs listen to this, the song will keep on lingering in their mind.

Song-O Jaan-e-man Zindagi Hai Jeene Ke Liye (Chhalia)(1973)Singers-Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

Ooo
jaan-e-man
Ooo
jaan-e-man
Zindagi hai jeene ke liye
Yaad kare ye duniya aise jee
Haan
Jee
Oo
jaaneman
Tarara raraaa
Oo jaaneman
Tararara
Zindagi hai jeene ke liye
Tarara
Yaad kare ye duniya aise jee
Haan
Kya
Ooo janeman

Jahaan bhi achhi soorat ho dil baitho
Achha
Koi bhi sundar moorat ho dil de baitho
Soorat dokha de jaye to kya kar loge
Phool jo kaanta ban jaaye to kya kar loge

Oo jo bhi hoga
Wo dekha jaayega
Ooo na na na re hmm hmm hmm
Oo jaaneman
Tarara raraaa
Oo jaaneman
Tararara
Zindagi hai jeene ke liye
Tarara
yaad kare ye duniya aise jee
haan
kya
Ooo jaaneman

ek baar hi mile zindagi aaish kiye ja
Waah waah
shokh haseenon ki aankho se jaam piye ja
jaam agar zehreela ho to kya pee loge
naagan koi das legi to kya ji loge

Oo jo bhi hoga
wo dekha jaayega
Ooo na na na re hmm hmm hmm

Oo jaaneman
Tarara raraaa
Oo jaaneman
Tararara
zindagi hai jeene ke liye
Tarara
Yaad kare ye duniya aise jee
haan
Kya
Oo jaaneman
Tararara
Oo janeman
Tararara
Oo jaaneman
Tararara

Arun Sir’s surname wrongly mentioned in the post.
I suppose Satyajit ji is from Maharastra and he gets this wrong. 🙂
I mean no offence to anyone. Correcting others mistakes is my favourite pastime. I am also; very far from perfect.

Mahesh Ji, I am not sure what you are saying. Or is it because I said “Arun Kumar Deshmukh” instead of “Arunkumar Deshmukh”? If this is the case, then prey, where is the question of getting his surname (which is Deshmukh) wrong? Where does the question of me being a Maharashtrian or not come from?

And by the way, the word “here” in “in the comments of this song here” was supposed to be a hyperlink to take one to the page https://atulsongaday.me/2011/07/03/aa-mere-saathhi-aa/ where Arun Ji has posted the story of the movie in the comments.

Thanks

Satyajit

aap bura maan liya.
It was mentioned as “Deshpande” which was looking quite odd as we know Arun Sir very well.
The maharastra reference came from the fact that all three surnames are quite familiar in the state. I repeat no offence whatsoever intended.
I too know Marathi very well.
