Today (9 july 2015) is the 77th birth anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar (9 July 1938 – 6 November 1985). In a movie world where most actors were afraid of playing roles other than the ones they were typed cast in, Sanjeev Kumar would play any kind of roles, without worrying about his past image as an actor. He would play the roles that other heroes would not touch with a barge pole, and he would carry them off with aplomb. He had played roles of mentally challenged man (in Khilona-1970), Deaf and dumb (in Koshish), father of an actor older than him (father of Shashi Kapoor in Trishul), Husband, father as well as father in law of the same actress (Jaya Bhaduri) in different movies, etc. And I have not yet mentioned his role of Thakur in Sholay (1975). In “Naya Din Nayi Raat”, he played nine roles !
In brief, Sanjeev Kumar was an actor who never allowed himself to be typedcast. He accepted any kinds of roles, not worrying how that role was going to affect his image. And he came up with flying colours in all these roles.
“Baadal”(1966) was one of the earliest movies of Sanjeev Kumar’s career. This movie was produced and directed by Aspi Irani for Super Pictures. The movie had Sheikh Mukhtaar, L.Vijayalaxmi, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Kamal Mehra, Hira Lal, Shammi Aunty, Ratnamala, Niroo, Fazal Khan, Prem, Bob, Ali Razak etc in it.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fifth song from “Baadal”(1966). This song is sung by Bhupinder Singh and Asha Bhonsle. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Usha Khanna. The song is picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Helen.

Thanks for an excellent post, Atul ji.
Yes, he was one of the best actors Hindi Film industry has seen.
As Nitin Bhai has noted, he was kind of a minimalist, not melodramatic but a natural actor (predecessors of the same ilk being Yaqub, Motilal & Ashok Kumar, etc.).
He was not gifted with a great voice like Amitabh Bachchan, yet he could compensate that with a good command of voice modulation.

If my memory serves me right, I had sent the lyrics of all songs of this movie at a stretch,some 2 years ago.

Most naturalest (if may use the term) actor. All very clean movements. He knows what to do with his hands which is very important while acting..
Even his dance movements are deft and definite unlike the two left feeters which abounded in the industry those days.
In dialogue delivery he was badshah; till today people are emulating his voice even in ads…I am loving it.
Like all good things it had to end on a sad note. But before going bhidu sabki chhutti karke gaya.
