Missing Films of 1960s – 17
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

At the mention of the name ‘Pyaar Ki Jeet’, the mind automatically goes back to the 1948 film, with some wondrous songs like “Ik Dil Ke Tukde Hazaar Huye” sung by Rafi Sb, “Tere Nainon Ne Chori Kiya” sung by Suraiya, and “Itne Door Hain Huzoor Kaise Mulakat Ho” in the voice of Surinder Kaur. The iconic songs of that film were composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.

This film from 1962 appears to be an obscure name, not mentioned other than in the filmography lists. Geet Kosh lists just has four songs for this film. One may not consider them similar in status as the iconic numbers from the 1948 film. But I assure you that you will be surprised to hear this song, and others as we get to them in good time.

The film is produced under the banner of Roopvani Films, Bombay and is directed by Vasant Painter. The four songs listed are written by Qamar Jalaalabaadi and the the music composition is by Sudhir Phadke. The combination of artists who came together to create these songs is a good assurance that we will find quality music and songs in this film. This song is in the voice of Asha Bhosle. I am sure many will remember this memory tickler from the radio listening days.  The other songs are a duet by Rafi-Asha, a solo by Rafi Sb and another solo by Asha ji.

The list of actors in this film includes Kalpana, Mahipal, Indira, Mohan Choti, Heeralal, Arun, Ratnamala, Pal Sharma,Polson, SK Shukla, and Baby Shobha amongst others. Since only the audio of this song is available, I request other knowledgeable readers and friends to please add more information about the on screen picturization of this song.

Asha ji sings a song of complain, in which the lady is telling about the lack of attention from her beau. He never asks about her, never cares to find out what is in her heart. She complains that he probably doesn’t even know or care about the destination of this journey of love; he has not even taken the first step in this journey. Goodness, I wish someone would sing this to me. 😉

Lovely song, an alluring melody and a lovely rendition. Listen and enjoy.

Song – Bedard Anaadi Saanwariya (Pyaar Ki Jeet) (1962) Singer – Asha Bhosle, Lyrics – Qamar Jalaalabaadi, MD – Sudhir Phadke

Lyrics

bedard anaadi saanwariya
bedard anaadi saanwariya
mere mann ki lagan samjha hi nahin
bedard anaadi saanwariya
wo jaane to jaane bhi kaise
kabhi haal mera poochha hi nahin
bedard anaadee… saanwariya
ho saanwariya

main kaise kahun un se meri
kuchh baat nahin
aur baat bhi hai
jeevan ki lambi raahon mein
wo saath nahin
aur saath bhi hai
wo saath nahin
aur saath bhi hai
manzil ka pataa wo kya jaane
manzil ka pataa wo kya jaane
kabhi us ne kadam rakha hi nahin
bedard anaadee… saanwariya

kuchh meethe meethe sapnon ka
sansaar basaaya nainon mein
ik chitra banaaya haathon se
ik chitra banaaya nainon mein
ik chitra banaaya nainon mein
ik chitra kisi ne dekh liya
ik chitra kisi ne dekh liya
ik chitra abhi dekha hi nahin
bedard anaadi saanwariya
mere mann ki lagan samjha hi nahin
bedard anaadee… saanwariya
ho saanwariya

Sudhir ji,

There is a very interesting episode about this film-Pyar ki jeet-1962.

Though actress Kalpana is believed to have debuted in F C Mehra’s film “Professor”-1962 and it was declared also in the credits of the film as
“Introducing” Kalpana etc, this was not true.
Her first film was this ‘Pyar ki jeet’ with her Hero Mahipal.
When it became known to Eagle Films, they removed the words, ‘Introducing’ from the credits. Kalpana herself never used to mention this fact in any of the interviews. She tried to hide that her first Hero was Mahipal and NOT Shammi Kapoor.

Famous journalist and writer of Marathi Isak Mujawar once asked her why she hides this fact. She replied that since F C Mehra , Lekh Tandon and Shammi kapoor were big names she wanted to take this advantage. She further begged Mujawar not to highlight this film in her interview. He has mentioned this in one of his books, after her death.

This practice was pretty common in the film industry and Mala Sinha, Sudha malhotra and few others hid telling the truth about their early films or Debut.
