Today (16 novermber 2016) is the 49th death anniversary of Roshan (14 july 1917- 16 november 1967). He had died at the age of just 50 when he was at the zenith of his career. His untimely death, and also the untimely death of several other stalwards of HFM within a few years (Shailendra, Shakeel Badayuni, Jaikishan etc) marked the beginning of the end of the golden era of HFM.
Roshan had made his debut as a music director with “Neki Aur Badi”(1949). The movie had flopped and Roshan himself was so disappointed that he entertained thoughts of committing suicide. Kidar Sharma, his mentor gave him another assignment namely “Baawre Nain” (1951). This movie was a box office success and its music was well received and that gave Roshan a foothold in the industry. He established himself in the industry and enriched HFM with some memorable compositions.
According to my calculation, he composed some 424 songs in 55 released movies. 307 Roshan songs are already showcased in the blog. Songs from each of his released movies are represented in the blog. “Raja Beta”, one unreleased movie with Roshan’s music is the only movie of Roshan that is not represented in the blog. 26 of these movies are already YIPPEED.
On this occasion, here is a song from “Neki Aur Badi”(1949) which was the debut movie of Roshan. Five (out of ten) songs of this movie are covered in the blog in the past. The previous song was discussed as far back as in 2013.
“Neki Aur Badi” (1949) was an Oriental Pictures presentation. It was directed by Kidar Sharma. The movie had Geeta Bali, Pesi Patel, Nazira, Madhubala, Kidar Sharma, Uma Dutt etc in it.
This song is sung by Feroz Dastoor and Rajkumari. Kidar Sharma is the lyricist.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable in the lyrics.

jamuna tat natwar girdhar
shyam bansi madhur bajaaye

koi aake ae ae bichhaaye(?) hai ae ae ae
koi gardan jhukaa aa aaye hai ae ae ae ae
kahin honthon pe hasrat hai ae ae ae ae
kahin aankhon mein phaahe (?) hai
sakhiyaan sab aas lagaaye

leti hain haathon se dil thhaam
bansi madhur bajaaye
leti hain haathon se dil thhaam
bansi madhur bajaaye
brij mein kya dhoom machi hai
dekho kya raas rachi hai
brij mein kya dhoom machi hai
dekho kya raas rachi hai
chhanan chhoom chhoom chhoom
chhanan chhoom chhoom chhoom
sakhiyan sang naachat hai
ghanshyam bansi madhur bajaaye
jamuna tat natwar girdhar
shyam bansi madhur bajaaye
