# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 48 # Remembering Dara Singh on his Birth Anniversary #

Today (19th November 2016) is the eighty eighth Birth anniversary of Dara Singh (19.11.1928-12.07.2012).
Dara Singh started his film career mainly with ‘stunt films’ and had done many memorable roles as a ‘character actor’ too in many films (like Anand which I remember most and given the film’s story his role was a bit touching).
When I went through his filmography (available on ‘wiki’ ) to check which films I have watched I can list out – from his earlier movies – ‘King Kong-1962’, ‘Sikandar-E-Azam-1965’, ‘Mera Naam Joker-1970’.
Then from the seventies – ‘Anand’, ‘Ankhon Ankhon Mein’, ‘Kunwaara Baap’, ‘Dharam Karam’, ‘Dharmatma’, ‘Bajrangbali’, ‘Nalayak’ and from the eighties – ‘Main Inteqaam Loonga’, ‘Karma’,’Naaka Bandi’, and ‘Ajooba’, ‘Prem Deewaane’, ‘Dillagi’ from the nineties.
He played Hanuman in the epic TV serial ‘Ramayan’ in the 1980s, the role which very well suits him and which he performed very well. For me who grew up as a child in the seventies, I cannot forget this film ‘Bajrangbali-1976’ which I had watched at that time. And his image as ‘Hanuman’ has been so engraved in my mind that I thought there would be many films of him as ‘Hanuman’ or he must have played the role of ‘Hanuman’ in many mythological films related with Ramayan or part of that. But when I checked his filmography today I find that there are only two films viz. ‘Bajrangbali-1976’ and ‘Lav-Kush-1997’ where he played the role of Hanuman. (I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this).
However as per the list of films mentioned on ‘wiki’, ‘Bajrangbali-1976’ is the first film where Dara Singh played the role of Hanuman. (I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this and also please correct me if I am wrong)
Here is a song from the film ‘Bajrangbali-1976’ which is there in my mind since years, and this song actually was my very ‘first contribution’ (as a lyrics contributor) that I had sent to Atul ji more than four years back. (At that time I had sent him only one part of the song, now equipped with HFGK Vol-V, I came to know that this song has a second version too. So, today we have both the versions with us. )
This film ‘Bajrangbali-1976’ had eleven songs in it (including one three part and one two part song). All songs are penned by Kavi Pradeep and music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anand ji.
‘Bajrangbali-1976’ was a Joy Films, Bombay presentation directed by Chandrakant. It had Dara Singh, Vishwajeet, Moushmi Chatterjee, Premnath, Shahi Kapoor, Mehmood, Bal Dhuri, Randhawa, Shahu Modak, Durga Khote, Sulochana, Sushma, Ulka, Jaya Kaushalya, Asit Sen, Babu Raje, B.M.Vyas, Jagdish Raj, Master Ajay, Master Alankar, Kumar Dighe, Radheshyam, Ramrasila, Ram Mohan, Mukri, Azad, Hercules, Dhanraj, Polson, Moolchand, Krishnakant, Mahesh Bhatt and Sumitra Devi, Jayshree Gadkar, Dulari in Special appearance.
Let us now listen to the song, which I like very much. The song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Dara Singh is lip syncing the song in the second part of the song while in the first part I could not identify the artist (who plays ‘Shiva’ in the film) lip syncing the song.
