“Ek Ke Baad Ek”(1960) was produced and directed by Raj Rishi for Rajkala, Bombay.

This movie had Dev Anand, Sharda, Tarla Mehta, Radhakishan, Prabhu, S K Prem, Hiralal, Madhu Apte, Fazal, Ravikant, Vimal, Mumtaz, Rani Sachdev, Shah, Omi etc with lots of child artists, viz. Brij, Reeta, Geeta, Raj Amrohi, Kiran Kumar, Manorama etc.

Six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the seventh song from “Ek Ke Baad Ek”(1960) to appear in the blog. The song is a children’s beggar song which is sung by Geeta Dutt, Sudha Malhotra and Chorus. The song is picturised on lots and lots of children, playing orphans. Many of these children belong to S K Prem and Tarla Mehta, who play Dev Anand’s brother and Bhabhi and who would give birth too lots and lots of children one after another, prompting the movie to be titled “Ek Ke Baad Ek”.

One can also see S K Prem and Dev Anand in the picturisation.

Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics

haath pasaare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain

haath pasaare
haath pasaare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain

humko paida karne waalon
humko paida karne waalon
tumko duaayen dete hain
hath pasare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain
haath pasaare

apne se badon ka kehna sun’na
chhota munh aur baat badi
apne se badon ka kehna sunna
chhota munh aur baat badi

jeevan humne kab maanga thha
jeevan humne kab maanga thha
jiski sazaayen dete hain
haath pasaare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain
haath pasaare

aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa

inse unse mil jaata hai
koi tukda roti ka
inse unse mil jaata hai
koi tukda roti ka

dard hamen apnon ne diya hai
dard hamen apnon ne diya hai
gair duwaayen dete hain
haath pasare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain
haath pasaare

chori karna
maangna khaana
ulti seedhi sunte jaana
chori karna
maangna khaana
ulti seedhi sunte jaana

pa ke bhole bachpan ko
pa ke

bhole bachpan ko
ye kaisi adaayen dete hain
haath pasaare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain
haath pasaare raste raste
sabko sadaayen dete hain

Touches ones heart – well sung.
Two corrections in the lyrics are suggested:-
‘ gair dawaayein dete hain’ (not duwaayen), and
‘ ye kaisi azaayein dete hain’ (not adaayen). ‘Azaayein’ means ‘suffering’.
