“Grihasthhi”(1948) was directed by S M Yusuf for Aaina Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Faizi, Kuldip, Sulochana Chatterji, Masood, Sharda, Yakub, Shyama, Mirza Musharaf, Pran, Lalita Pawar etc in it.
The movie had eight songs in it. Five of these songs have been covered in the blog.
Here is the sixth song from “Grihasthhi”(1948) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Wahid Qureshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.
The video of this song is available. From the picturisation, we see Sharda (sister of Vinod Mehra) singing this expression of love song, while Pran (who has caused this expression of love) looking on. Going by this picturisation, the very slim and young looking Pran appears to be the hero of this song and Sharda appears to be the leading lady of this movie. But HFGK does not even mention the name of Sharda in the star cast, which seems an oversight.
This delightful song is quite a rare song and a wonderful revelation. This is one song that is superbly picturised. This song must be regarded as a forgotten gem.
Though “Grihasthhi”(1948) has been forgotten with time, this movie was one of the biggest hits of its time, so much so that it was remade as “Ghar Basa Ke Dekho”(1963) which was a frame by frame copy of “Grihasthhi”(1948).
