“Saaz Aur Sanam”(1971) was produced and directed by J B H Wadia for Wadia movietone. It was the last movie for this director as well as the banner. The movie had Premendra (newcomer), Rekha(newcomer) Suresh Chatwal, Poornima, Sapru, Ratan Kumar, Brahmachari, Master Bhagwan, Asit Sen, Arvind (debut), Rajni Bala (guest appearance) etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. Four songs have been covered so far.

We notice that two male solos and two female solos have been covered so far. The male solo were sung by Kishore Kumar and they were lip synced by Premendra. The two female solos were sung by Lata Mangeshkar. However, one of them was lip synced by Rekha. The other song was a cabarat song sung by Lata Mangeshkar and it was picturised on Rajni Bala. One would think that the voice of Asha Bhonsle should have been used for such morally depraved genre of song :). Chitragupta was one of few music composer who could persuade Lata Mangeshkar so sing cabarat songs (Laxmikant Pyarelal being another).
The fifth snd final song is another cabarat song. This time the music director made amends and employed the voice of Asha Bhonsle for the song. However, it was the turn to the director to show moral turpitude this time. They have picturised this song on Rekha, who is the heroine of the movie and therefore supposed to be Sati Savitri incarnate ! Movie lovers who are accustomed to watching her in traditional Bhartiya naari roles would be aghast to see her performing a Helen like cabarat dance !
Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
With this song, all the five songs of “Saaz Aur Sanam”(1971) have been covered in the blog. The movie thus joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.
