Today 8th September’2024 is the 91st birth anniversary (born on 08.09.1933) of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.

It is customary for us on this blog that we post songs related to the celebrity on the day and discuss about their filmography or biography. Today’s celebrity singer Asha Bhonsle is already a living legend and there is nothing new left for me to add as far as her biography or filmography is concerned. Much has already been written about her online as well as in the print media. Sometimes new facts are brought to our notice through publications about them. We try to include such facts when we become aware of them . There is nothing new to report about Asha Bhonsle in this post. In this post I am bringing a lesse heard song of Asha Bhonsle to the notice of music lovers. I became aware of this song recently and I liked it a lot.

This song, an Asha Bhonsle solo is composed by R.D. Burman. This songs is a perfect song to be presented on the occasion of the birthday of Asha Bhonsle.

This song is from the movie ‘Bhalaa Maanush-1979’. This movie was directed by Vishwamitter (as the poster of this movie mentioned him) for ‘Abhinay Film Productions, Bombay’. It had Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Asrani, Aruna Irani, Jeevan, Kamal Kapoor, Komila Virk, Sulochana, Chand Usmani, Om Shivpuri, Azad, Madhup Sharma, Sharat Saxena, Janki Das, Birbal, Mushtaq, Viju Khote, Mukri, Maruti, Mahaveer Shah, Vimal Chopda, Dharamveer, Dhannalal, Raj Kaul and others.

Story idea of this movie was by Kamleshwar and it was written by Suraj Sanim. Editing of this movie was done by Babu Sheikh. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 27.01.1979. Vishwamitter who directed this movie was also the producer of this movie.

‘Bhalaa Maanush-1979’ has five songs written by Gulshan Bawra and composed by R.D. Burman. Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

I never got to watch this movie so I can’t say much about it. However, from what I read on the internet this movie is about a ‘simpleton’ from village that is (Anand) Randhir Kapoor who is a ‘bhalaa maanush’, as he sacrifices his much needed job to ahelp his friend who as per Anand needs it more than him. While searching for a suitable job circumstances leads Anand to get involved in smuggling activities. How he gets out of it and what happens on the wa’ is all that we have to watch in this movie. Chandu (Asrani) is Anand’s friend. Chandu is a tabla player but he is also unemployed. Chanda (Arun Irani) is ‘Chandabai’ a ‘mujra dancer’. Today’s song is picturised on Chandabai (Aruna Irani). We can see Asrani, Kamal Kapoor and others as well in the picturisation of this mujra song.

I am sure readers will enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed it.

Here is wishing Asha Bhonsle a very happy birthday today and a healthy and peaceful life ahead !!!
