Today’s song is yet another song from the year 1975. This is from the movie ‘Uljhan-1975’. I had never watched this movie till recently, when I watched it on a video sharing platform. This movie is a nice movie to watch, and all the actors/actresses have performed their roles well. This film keeps one engaged till the end even though we already know who-killed-who in the very beginning of the movie. This movie ranked at number thirteenth (13th) among the top Hindi movies of 1975 at the box office.

‘Ulhan-1975’ was directed by R. Jhalani for “Vijayashree Pictures”. It was presented by Gobindram H. Ahuja and Sudesh Kumar was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie has Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, debutant Sulakshana Pandit, Asrani, Farida Jalal, Aruna Irani and Ranjeet with by Agha, Shivraj, Murad, Virendra Sharma, Viju Khote, Master Raju, Pinchoo Kapoor and Urmila Bhatt. They were supported by Amrit Patel, Tiger Kapoor, Baldev Trehan, Ajit Kumar Bose, Onkar, Raj Varma, Pardesi, Raj Khanna, Harish, Jitti, Rocky, and others. Om Shivpuri and Yunus Parvez had a special appearance in this movie.

Story and screenplay of ‘Uljhan-1975’ was written by Shashi Bhushan. Its dialogues were written by Madan Joshi. This movie has six songs (including one multiple version song) written by M.G. Hashmat and music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. The playback singers for this movie were Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Sulakshana Pandit, Usha Timoti, Kanchan and Sudesh Kumar. B. Prasad was the editor of this movie.

Two songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog earlier. Today I am presenting the third song from this movie here. This is a song which was frequently played on radio during those years, and I found it very irritating at that time. 😊

The theme song cum title song from this movie is the one which I like most and it is highly nostalgic for me. Couple of other songs from this movie are also good and one of them has already been posted on the blog. We will have two more songs remaining from this movie after this song.

The background of the today’s song is that Karuna (Sulakshana Pandit) receives mails from the postman, and she notices that there is a letter from her sister-in-law Kamla (Farida Jalal) among the letters. This letter is important for Karuna, and she has to take care that this letter does not fall in the hands of anyone in the family. However, unexpectedly, Inspector Anand (Sanjeev Kumar) husband of Karuna, comes to home early that day and enters the home when Karuna is carrying the letters. To divert her husband’s attention from the mail Karuna breaks into this song and succeeds in hiding away the incriminating letter.

Let us enjoy the song now…Lyrics are by M.G. Hashmat, Lata Mangeshkar is the singer (for Sulakshana Pandit) and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Song-Subah aur shaam kaam hee kaam (Uljhan)(1975) Singer-Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics-M G Hashmat, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam

subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam
subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam
kyun naheen lete piyaa
pyaar kaa naam
kaam se jisko
miley naa chhuttee
kaam se jisko
miley naa chhuttee
aise sajnaa se meree
kuttee kuttee kuttee ee
subah aur shaam
kaam hi kaam
kyun naheen lete piyaa
pyaar kaa naam

aaj naa jaane
dil kee dhadkan
raaz kyon dil kaa kholey
ae ae ae ae
raaz kyon dil kaa kholey
main to jaanoon
wo naa jaanen
ye tadpan kyaa boley
ae ae ae
ye tadpan kyaa boley
padhh naa sake jo
man kee chitthhee
padhh naa sake jo
man kee chitthhee
aise sajnaa se meree
kuttee kuttee kuttee ee
subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam
kyun naheen lete piyaa
pyaar kaa naam

pyaar ke vaade
kal jo kiye thhe
aaj hai kyaa majbooree
ee ee ee
aaj hai kyaa majbooree ee
sah naa sakoon main
paas mein reh ke
apne piyaa se doorie
ee ee ee
apne piyaa se doorie
jiskee agan mein
main jal uthhee
jiskee agan mein
main jal uthhee
aise sajnaa se meree
kuttee kuttee kuttee ee
subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam
kyun naheen lete piyaa
pyaar kaa naam
kaam se jisko
miley naa chhuttee
kaam se jisko
miley naa chhuttee
aise sajnaa se meree
kuttee kuttee kuttee ee
subah aur shaam
kaam hee kaam
kyun naheen lete piyaa
pyaar kaa naam

Uljhan was one of the successful movies of the period and its songs were heard for quite some time. Good to include them here.
