Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 17

Today’s rarely heard song of Asha ji is a cabaret number “Mehfil Mein Husn Mera”. This song is composed by Kalyanji Anandji and written by Hasrat Jaipuri.

“Hamrahi” was produced by Shubhash Sagar, under the Sagar Arts banner, and was directed by Anand Sagar. It’s music music was composed by Kalyanji Anandji and each of the 4 songs had a different lyricist (ie) Jan Nisar Akhtar, Shakila Banu Bhopali, Hasrat Jaipuri and Kulwant Jani. The movie starred Randhir Kapoor, Tanuja, Sujit Kumar, Keshto Mukherjee, Jagirdar, Rajendra Nath, Tun Tun, Hiralal, Lalita Pawar, K N Singh, Sailesh Kumar, Hiralal, Shakeela Bano Bhopali, Uma Dhawan, Shyam Kumar, Pinchoo Kapoor, Jankidas, etc

It was a laugh riot. You keep on laughing every single moment. The film delves into themes of love, ambition, and societal expectations, set against the backdrop of 1970s India. It explores the dynamics of relationships and the challenges faced by individuals striving for success in a competitive environment.

Two songs have already been posted on the blog. Both of them were in 2014. The first one was Chup chup chup kyun baithhi ho posted by me and then Atul Ji posted Muhabbat bhara koi paighaam de and wrote a brief about yours’ truly.

This song is a quintessential example of a seductive, performance-based number popular in Hindi cinema of the 1970s. The song exudes confidence, allure, and a sense of self-celebration. It plays on the classic motif of a woman using her beauty and charisma to command attention, possibly masking emotional depth or inner conflict beneath the surface glamor.

Asha Bhosle delivers the song with her trademark blend of sultriness and expression. Her voice brings both sophistication and subtle playfulness, which fits perfectly with the cabaret-style mood.

The music by Kalyanji-Anandji uses rhythmic percussion, brass, and a swinging orchestration that echoes the jazzy, nightclub environment. There’s a Western musical influence here — something that aligns with the film’s attempt to reflect urban, modern sensibilities of the 1970s.

The song is picturised on Jayashree T and with her are Jezabel and one more dancer whom I am unable to identify. May be our dear Prakashchandra Ji will help us here. Also seen are Hiralal, K N Singh, Sujit Kumar, Randhir Kapoor and Rajendernath.
Editor’s noteAccording to the identifications made by Prakashchandra, our in house identifier of obscure actors, The dancer in green outfit is Uma Dhawan. The dancer in pink outfit is Sujata Bakshi.

Chorus

Lyrics(Based on audio link):

ho mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
o mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ho ek nazar dekh idhar
kya kya jalwe laaya
ek nazar dekh idhar
kya kya jalwe laaya
mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ho mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya

ho o o o
jubna se jhaanke hai
o jubna se jhaanke hai
aise jawaan
jaise ke pyaaloon se
chhalke sharaab
dekhe jidhar barse udhar rimjhim mastiyaan
dekhe jidhar barse udhar rimjhim mastiyaan
mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ho mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya

hahahahaha

ho o o o
bijlee sa chamke hai
ho bijlee sa chamke hai
jhilmil badan
chale jaise baaghon mein
thhandee pawan
chehra kamal
aankhen ghazal
qaatil har ada
chehra kamal
aankhen ghazal
qaatil har ada
mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ho mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya

ho o o
yeh kaafir jawaanee hai
ye kaafir jawaanee hai
jaltee ghata
uspe sitam hai ye
kajre kee dhaar
jab ye hanse
dil pe giren
laakhon bijliyaan
jab ye hanse
dil pe giren
laakhon bijliyaan
mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ho
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
ek nazar dekh idhar
kya kya jalwe laaya
ek nazar dekh idhar
kya kya jalwe laaya
mehfil mein
mehfil mein husn mera
neelaam hone aaya
haa
mehfil mein haa husn mera
neelaam hone aaya

According to our in-house specialist Prakashchandra Ji, the dancer in green outfit is Uma Dhawan and the one in pink outfit at 0.34 is Sujata Bakshi. Sujata worked as dance assistant in many films and done various bit dancing roles.

According to him, there’s no Jayshree T & Jezabel.

He is not able to identify the third dancer.

Sir, Each and every song from Hindi Films do deserve a place on this blog. Some more some less. So let’s not be dismissive. A lot of time and effort has gone in to making the songs, by many artists.
