‘Taraana-1979’ was directed by Deepak Bahri for Chanda Pictures. It was presented by Rajshri Productions and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. Living upto the reputation of the production house this movie too gives us a clean, musical, family entertainer movie. This is a nice movie having a nice story line of ‘love’ and including sub-plots of ‘lost and found’ story, and ‘wealthy and poor’ conflict to it. The cast of this movie ‘Taraana-1979’ is Ranjeeta, Mithun Chakraborty, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Urmila Bhatt, Jayshree T., Sharat Saxena, and Om Shivpuri. They were supported by Yunus Parvez, Janki Das, Sundar, Bhagwan, Shakeel, Satyabhan Sinha, Naresh, Pardesi, Master Sandeep, Shobha Khote, Mala Jaggi, Uma Khosla, and Jagdeep. The story, screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Khalid & Narvi. Editing of this film was done by Mukhtar Ahmed.
Geet Kosh lists twelve songs for this movie. However, it seems that two songs were not included in the movie and out of these two even the audio/record is also not available for one song. Lyricist Ravindra Rawal and Tilakraj Thapar penned six songs each for this movie. Usha Mangeshkar, Shailendra Singh, Aarti Mukherjee, Jagjit Singh, Dilraj Kaur, Chetan and Varsha Bhonsle were the singers. Music for this movie was composed by Raamlaxman.
Today we move further in the journey of the songs of ‘Taraanaa-1979’. Till the previous posts we know that ‘Taraanaa-1979’ is a story of ‘Love on the wings of music’ and living to this tagline the movie has a nice plot with perfectly woven songs which keep the story moving. ‘Taraanaa’’ is a ‘love story’, and it also has a ‘wealthy and poor’ conflict. We have parents, whose ‘social status’ becomes a hurdle in the ‘milan’ of the lovers. The hero’s father comes from a higher caste background and that gives him ‘arrogance’ to reject the proposal from the ‘girl’s father. The girl’s father who also is a head of his ‘banjaaraa’ camp decides to leave the ‘Thakur’s land, thus separating the two lovers – i.e. Shaym and Raani/Raadha. Thus, we had had the ‘judaaee’ song or ‘separation song in the previous post.
Now, the Chhote Thakur (hero – Mithun Chakravarty) sets out in disguise of a ‘singing banjaaraa’ to lookout for the whereabouts of his love and meet her. This is the situation where we have this today’s song happening in the movie.
Lyrics for this song are by Ravindra Raval and music is composed by Raamlaxman. On screen we have Mithun Chakravarty lip-syncing in the voice of Shailendra Singh. A nice song with beautiful verses which deserves to be a well-known song but maybe it was forgotten among other well-known songs from this movie.
Today 16th June 2025 happens to be the seventy-sixth birthday of actor Mithun Chakravarty. We wish him a very happy birthday and a healthy and peaceful life ahead.
Let us now enjoy this wonderful song from this movie ‘Taraanaa’.
