India is a land of vast diversity in its culture and traditions. However, the underlying theme of Unity in this diversity has remained intact for centuries. Diversity of India has enriched the country and has provided the glue to bind the country together. There are different languages, different religions, diverse culture and diverse customs and traditions. But, among these diversities there are festivals and pilgrimages that bond us together spiritually.
One of these pilgrimages is the annual Amarnaath Yaatraa which for this year 2025 starts from today. The first contingent of the devotees will take darshan today and this Yaatraa will last for 38 days. Hundreds of devotees from all over the country will be visiting the Amarnaath Caves.
The song under discussion celebrates this Amarnath Yaatra. It is from the movie ‘Jai Baabaa Amarnaath-1983’. The lyricist for this song is Kavi Pradeep.
Kavi Pradeep has penned many songs dealing with mythology and religion. We will try to cover such songs in the days to come.
In nine days, the auspicious ‘Shraavan’ month will commence in northern parts of the country and fifteen days later, it will commence in southern parts of the country (plus in the state of Gujarat and Maharashtra). Songs dealing with this topic will be covered in the blog in the days to come.
The movie ‘Jai Baabaa Amarnaath-1983’ was directed by B.R. Ishara for ‘King Movies’. The producer of this movie was Badriprasad Joshi, and it was passed by Censor Board on 11.01.1983. It had Vikram Gokhale, Beena, Mahipal, B.M. Vyas, Surya Kumar, Anant Marathe, Maheshwari, Master Vikas, Mohan Choti, Meghna, Ratna Bhushan, Naina Bhatt, Champshi Bhai, Ashalata, Bhagwan, Tun Tun, S. Madan, Surekha Rane, Karunakar Pathak, Baiju Raja, Nanak Singh, Lakhan, Amit, Mishrilal, Hangama and Jaya Kaushalya, Mahesh Desai. Sujit Sen and Subramaniam were Assistant Directors for this movie. S.A. Kadar was the Chief Assistant Director. Dahya Bhai was the Cameraman for this movie. The editing for this movie was done by L.D. Bhatia. Story of this movie was written by Pandit R. Priyadarshi. Kavi Pradeep wrote the songs for this movie and music was composed by Usha Khanna. The singers for this movie are by Kavi Pradeep, Mahendra Kapoor, Usha Khanna, Suresh Wadkar, Chandrani Mukherjee, and Dilraj Kaur. The records were released by ‘Music India’.
This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and chorus. Mahipal lip-syncs the song on screen. Picturisation shows devotees singing and praising Lord Shiva and travelling to the shrine. However, the visuals seem to be from a different route also rather than the actual route of the ‘Amarnaath Yaatraa’.
