There have been two Hindi movies with the title “Ustaad Pedro” that were released in 1951 and 1971 respectively.
These two movies had the same title because they were produced by the same man viz Sheikh Mukhtar and he had played the title role in both the movies. One can easily guess that this story line was close to his heart so he decided to repeat the same story line with the very same movie title. Seeing that there was a 20 year gap between the two movies, the actors in the 1971 necessarily had to be different.
“Ustaad Pedro”(1971) was produced by Sheikh Mukhtar and directed by Chaand for Time Life Films, Bombay. The movie had Sheikh Mukhtar, Meena Roy, Jeewan, Padma Khannaa, Asha Nadkarni, Kundan, Raka, Shyam Kumar, Helen, Junior Mehmood, Master Dingu, Sadiq, Hameed, Kaku, Fazlu, Bihari, B A Baghi, Anil Dutt (new face) etc in it. One can notice that the lead actress in this movie was someone called Meena Roy. Few people have any idea who she was. In contrast, the lead actress of “Ustaad Pedro”(1951) was a famous actress of her time viz Begam Para.
In “Ustaad Pedro”(1951), music was composed by C Ramchandra whereas music of “Ustaad Pedro”(1971) was given by C Arjun. 🙂 There were people who thought that the two were brothers from South India. I myself was among such people. 🙂 It was much later that I came to know that C Ramchandra was a Maharashtrian and C Arjun was a Sindhi. 🙂
“Ustaad Pedro”(1971) had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the blog.
Here is the third song from “Ustaad Pedro”(1971) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Asad Bhopali is the lyricist.
This song is picturised as a roadside dance song where two dholakiyas play on their dholak while a female dancer dances and they are watched by bystanders surrounding them. Here Padma Khanna is the dancer. Junior Mehmood is one of the dholak player. I am unable to identify the other dholakiya. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify him.
This song was a reasonable popular song of its time. I had heard this song during its time without being aware of its details. Subsequently this song was forgotten alongwith the movie. In other words, this Asha Bhonsle song ended up being a kamsuna/ ansuna Asha Bhonsle song, as our fellow regular Satyajit Rajurkar jee describes these Asha Bhonsle gems. 🙂
The Video of the song is longer than the audio.

Song-Sainyya bele ka phool main chamelee kee kalee (Ustaad Pedro)(1971) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-C Arjun
Lyrics
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
mujhe roke na koi
unse milne chalee re
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
huyee jab se jawaan
padee uljhan mein jaan
mera ghar se nikalna mushqil hua
teekhee nazron ke ban phenke har naujawaan
mera raste pe chalna mushqil hua
aaya aisa zamaana
ke re tauba bhalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
ek din ki hai baat
thhee bahaaron kee raat
do jawaan dil achaanak takra gaye
unke albele nain
loot kar dil ka chain
meree nas nas mein shole bhadka gaye
hum ko milte jo dekha
saaree dunia jalee re
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
tauba tauba ye log
ban gaye jee ka rog
pyaar ke geet phir bhee gaatee hoon main
unse waada hai aaja naheen kehne mein laaj
apne sainya se milne jaateen hoon main
mere ghar se to door naheen unkee galee re
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
mujhe roke na koi
unse milne chalee re
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
sainya bele ka phool
main chamelee kee kalee
