October 10th was being celebrated as Karva Chauth in many parts of India, with the main festivities being in North India & many parts of Western India. Googling about the festival gave me the following knowledge
Karwa Chauth 2025 Date And Tithi Details
• Upavasa (Fasting) Time: October 10, 2025 – 06:19 AM to 08:13 PM
• Moonrise: October 10, 2025 – 08:13 PM
The moonrise marks the end of the fast, when women look skyward through a sieve, offer prayers, and take the first sip of water from their partner’s hands – a moment symbolic of blessings, affection, and renewal.
I read a very interesting query regarding the ritual of fasting for Karva Chauth on the internet:- the question was “What happens if you are pregnant and celebrating Karva Chauth?”
And the following is the answer that some knowledgeable person has given:-
“If you are pregnant or a new mother, fasting is not safe — it may affect your health and your baby’s well-being. Remember, love is not measured by staying hungry; it is shown through care, respect, and togetherness. Celebrate Karwa Chauth by dressing up, spending time with family, and sharing happiness.”
Here is wishing all those who celebrated the festival “Best Wishes of the Festival”. Hope the Moon appeared on time the rituals were completed in the right manner.
I remember “Baghban” (2003) which had a ‘Karva Chauth’ scene. We see that the Senior Citizen pair of Amitabh Bachchan & Hema Malini, who are in different locations, have undertaken the ritualistic fast for the well-being of each other. They look at each others photographs and break their fast by sipping water at the same time; all the while they are speaking to one another on the phone. That was a highly emotional scene, and we all are well aware of how good Amitabh Bachchan & Hema Malini are, when it comes to open display of emotions, melodrama, comedy and the whole gamut that make up Indian films
With this post we shall have a song that is ‘KARVA CHAUTH’centric (I know English doesn’t have a word called CHUATHcentric, I just made it up for use here.) 🙂 It is from the 2001 released, Yash Johar produced & Karan Johar directed K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham).
I think this was the first film for which an acronym was coined. The film had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kaapoor, Farida Jalal, Sushma Seth, Alok Nath, Johnny Lever, Himani Shivpuri playing important characters. The film also had Rani Mukherjee & Achala Sachdev (her last film) in special appearances. Then there were Shashikala, Jugal Hansraj, & Simone Singh in guest appearances. The songs were composed by Jatin-Lalit, Sandesh Shandilya & Aadesh Shrivastava. Sameer was the lyricist for all the songs except ‘Suraj hua maddham’ which was written by Anil Pandey (need to know who this is 🙂 )
The theme of K3G was “It’s all about loving your parents”. The story was about a wealthy Indian family that becomes estranged when the adopted son is disowned by his father for marrying a woman of lower socio-economic status, leading to years of separation and eventual reconciliation.
Basically, the adopted son (SRK) grows up with a strong sense of duty to his parents and strives to meet their expectations. He leaves the house with his newly wedded wife (Kajol) & her sister (Kareena)- almost like self-exile. The mother (Jaya) is heartbroken. On his return from boarding school, the younger son (Hrithik) understands about all that has transpired in the family. He sets out in search of his older brother, finds them, stays with them without revealing his identity. But Kareena identifies him & challenges him to publicly address his older brother as ‘BHAIYYA’. Hrithik nearly does that at the Karva Chauth party that is held in his brother’s home. He even imagines a situation where all the ladies of the family (including Kareena who he has grown fond of) celebrate the festival together. That is when the song in today’s post happens. (Please note that we have SRK playing a doting, protective Jija in this song. 🙂 )
No prizes for guessing why this post is appearing on 11th of October instead of yesterday i.e. 10th October which was the date of ‘Karva Chauth’ this year.
The song is a way of celebrating the birthday of Big B or Shahenshah of Hindi films. I mean, 11th October is the birthday of Amitabh Harivansh Rai Bachchan- son of poet/ writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan & Teji Bachchan who was a social activist in her times. I have read somewhere that Teji Bachchan played Lady Macbeth in her husband’s Hindi adaptation of ‘Macbeth’ (this was new knowledge for me). Big B’s parents are also made a fleeting appearance in Yash Chopra’s ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ in 1976. That means appreciation of literature, poetry & the arts runs in the family of Bachchan Sr. (as Amitabh Bachchan is sometime addressed).
Bachchan Sr. made his debut in films in 1969 as a voice narrator for Mrinal Sen’s ‘Bhuvan Shome’ & his first acting assignment also released in 1969- K.A.Abbas’s ‘Saat Hindustani’. He has been in public eye since the last 56 years & currently he is a nightly visitor to our homes as the host of “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. His last acting assignment released in 2024 (‘Vettaiyan’ – loosely translating as Hunter) which was his debut in Tamil films, alongside Rajnikanth.
Here is wishing Amitabh Bachchan Good Health & Good Times on his birthday

Nalini ji,
Nice articulation of the write-up ending up paying tributes to Big B.
The film, A magnum opus indeed.
