If one takes a look on Hindi films made with the title as ‘आम्रपाली’ (Amrapali), there are only two movies made with this title. The first movie was released in the year 1945 and the second one was released in the year 1966. All the songs for the movie of the year 1966 have been covered on this blog. That movie, whose music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan had some great songs in it.
‘Amrapali’ released in the year 1945 had eleven songs in it. Seven songs of this movie have been covered so far.
This historical movie was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal for Murli Movietone, Bombay. The cast of this movie included Prem Adib, Sabita Devi, Jeevan, Arun, Jagdish, Badri Prasad, Sankata Prasad, Gulab, Kabeer and others. Kavi Pradeep wrote eleven songs for this movie under the name of Miss Kamal B.A. and Music for this movie was composed by Saraswati Devi.
Our inhouse cinema encyclopaedia Shree Arunkumar jee had given details about this movie in the past. I am reproducing that information here :-
“the film story was by Ramchandra Thakur. Actually, this was based on Thakur’s own famous novel Amrapali. The dialogues were by Munshi Dil. The film, made under the banner of Murli Cinetone, was shot entirely in the Andheri studios of Lakshmi productions. The story of Amrapali is a real story, which took place in the times of Gautam Buddha. Although the original novel of Ramchandra Thakur depicted the reality in his book very nicely, the film story was twisted and under the guise of taking ‘Cinematic liberty’, the main events of the story were drastically changed, twisting the history. Comparatively, the film ‘Amrapali’ made later in 1966 was much better. At least it did not change the original story. Amrapali or Ambapalika’s story is mentioned in old Pali language Texts and Buddhist literature.”
Geet Kosh Vol-II (1941-1950) give name of the singer for eight songs of the movie. Ameerbai Karnataki sang six solo songs. G.M. Durrani and Khan Mastana sanmg one solo song each.
Today I am presenting the eighth song from this movie. This is a female solo song in the voice of Ameerbai Karnataki. With this song all the known six songs sung by Ameerbai Karnataki in this movie get covered on this blog.

o o o o o o o o
wo mere kutiyaa ke deep damko o
mere aangan mein chaand chamko o o

aaj mehmaan ban ke aayenge
aayenge ae
mere jeewan mein mere naathh
piyaa mere saath rahenge ae
aaj kee raat
piyaa mere saath rahenge
aaj kee raat
aaj mere man kee koyal
kuhu kuhu bolegee
aaj meree preet
pehlee baar ghoonghat kholegee
main binaa mol
main binaa mol
bikoongee kisee ke haathh
piyaa mere saath rahenge ae ae
aaj kee raat
aaj kee raat
aaj kee raat
piyaa mere saath rahenge
aaj kee raat
