Today’s song is a lovely duet from the movie ‘Sati Sulochana-1969’. This song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and Mahendra Kapoor. This song can well be categorized as a ‘chitrahaar’ of song. The melody will take you back to the melodious decade of the sixties.
This movie ‘Sati Sulochana-1969’ had made its debut on the blog on 05.04.2019, when our respected Shree Sudhir jee had introduced this movie on this blog with its song ‘kaun tere sapnon mein aataa’ sung by Suman Kalyanpur. Here is what Sudhir jee had mentioned about the story in the movie.
The story of Sati Sulochana is part of the history of Ramayan. Sulochana is the daughter of Sheshnaag, the king of serpents. She is married to Meghnaad, the son of Raavan. Meghnaad is also known as Indrajeet, for he had once vanquished Lord Indra and captured many sophisticated weapons from him. In the narrative of Ramayan, Sulochana is described as a brave lady who is very supportive of her husband. Eventually, when her husband is killed in the battle with Lakshman, she makes a decision to immolate herself on his pyre.
This story has been made into films on many occasions. The first one on record is the silent film ‘Sati Sulochana’ in 1921. Then this film was produced in Kannada, in 1934, as the first talkie film in Kannada language. In 1935, a Hindi film was also released by this name, under the production banner of Godavari Cinetone. In 1961, this tale was also told in a Telugu film starring NT Ramarao. And then in 1969, we have this Hindi production again.

“Sati Sulochana-1969’, a mythological movie was directed by Shreenath Tripathi for ‘S.A. Films, Bombay’. The cast of this movie has Prithviraj, Anita Dutt (Guha), and Premnath, Raj Kumar, Bipin Gupta, Kanan Kaushal, Sundar, Ram Singh, Ram Mohan and others.
This movie has nine songs which were composed to music by Shreenath Tripathi (S.N. Tripathi). The lyrics writers were Bharat Vyas(seven songs) and B.D. Mishra(two songs). Manna Dey, Suman Kalyanpur, Mahendra Kapoor, and Krishna Kalle were the playback singers for this movie.
As mentioned above one song from this movie has already been posted on this blog earlier. Today I am presenting the second song which is a duet sung by Suman Kalyanpur and Mahendra Kapoor. This song is picturised on Anita Guha and Premnath.
