Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-1
Welcome all to this post, where we are covering a duet song composed by Rahul Dev Burman fondly known as Pancham. I had earlier presented Pancham’s compositions from the eighties. With this post, we will be listening to duet songs composed by Pancham from the eighties and subsequently the nineties.
The song being covered in this article is from the movie ‘Romance-1983’. This movie was another Kumar Gaurav movie that had its title in English, like his film ‘Love Story-1981’ followed by ‘Star-1982’, and ‘Lovers-1983’.
‘Romance-1983’ was produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar for his home productions ‘Sagar Art Enterprises, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.10.1983. The cast of this movie included Shammi Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, with Saeed Jaffrey, Helena Luke, Sushma Seth, Prema Narayan, and Tom Alter. They were supported by Viju Khote, Jugnu, Manmauji, Samrat Kapoor, Dr. Madan Kataria, Randhawa, Jawahar Bhan, Chandan, Yogee, Jitu Vyas, and Moolchand. This movie introduced Christopher, Lilliput, and Jillian. Raj Babbar, Ranjeeta and Ram Sethi make friendly appearance in this movie.
I have not yet watched this movie yet. Sources on internet mention this movie as a ‘good musical-entertaining –love story of teenage lovers of jet-age, with usual twists and turns before they finally are able to unite forever’.
Many viewers who watched this movie during Covid lockdown have described this movie as a nice movie like ‘DDLJ’ and some even stated that DDLJ might have been inspired from this movie. 🙂 I have not watched either of the movies. Some comments, while sharing their memories about this movie, described this described the movie as a hit movie of its time.
Story, Screenplay and dialogues for this movie ‘Romance-1983’ were written by Mirza Brothers. Editing of this movie was done by Subhash Sehgal.
This movie had five songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Amit Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor and R.D. Burman were the playback singers for this movie. One song from this movie has been posted earlier on this blog.
The song under discussion is sung by Amit Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The song is picturised on Kumar Gaurav and Poonam Dhillon on scenic outdoor locations (in India and abroad I guess).
