Today I am presenting a song from the 1977 movie ‘Aanand Aashram’. It was directed by Shakti Samanta for his home productions ‘Shakti Films’. I had earlier presented a song from this movie on this blog on 14.01.2023. This song is ‘jab chaaho chalee aaoongee’. I had not watched this movie till then, but I did always remember the two well-known songs from this movie i.e. ‘raahee naye naye rastaa nayaa nayaa’ and ‘saaraa pyaar tumhaaraa maine baandhh liyaa hain aanchal mein’. So, when I presented the third song from this movie I had also gone through the remaining songs from this movie and some parts of this movie. I am always fascinated by the movies coming from the Bengali directors and those which are based on the literary works of the writers coming from Bengal. I have a great admiration for the arts, culture, theatre and films coming from that part of our country. I always had this movie on the back of my mind and that is the reason for this post today.
‘Aanand Aashram-1977’ was directed by Shakti Samanta and this movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.10.1977. Shakti Samanta repeated almost all of the cast and crew of his film ‘Amaanush-1975’ into this movie except Ashok Kumar and might be few others. ‘Aanand Aashram’ had Ashok Kumar, Uttam Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, Utpal Dutt, Asit Sen, Anita Guha, Manik Dutt, Chandrima Bhaduri, Master Alankar, Manik, C.S. Dubey, Samar Rai, Amal, Mukund, Ratan, Jyoti, Master Ravi, Kumari Moushumi, Baby Shweta and others. Actress Prema Narayan had a guest appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Sailajananda Mukhopadhya and dialogues were written by Kamleshwar. Editing of this movie was done by Bijoy Chowdhury. Shakti Samanta who produced and directed this movie also wrote the screenplay of this movie. Music for this movie “Aanand Aashram” was composed by Shyamal Mitra and it has six songs – all written by Indeevar.
The gist of this movie till this song in the movie is like this;
Deepak (Uttam Kumar) is a doctor and Aasha (Sharmila Tagore) is his childhood friend. Pratap Narayan Chaudhary (Ashok Kumar) is Deepak’s father and is a wealthy-upper class person having legacy of his forefather’s and very proud of his status, and prestige in the society. Deepak and Aasha fall in love. Aasha’s father has been a Teacher to Deepak. But since Aasha’s father has converted and following other religion Pratap Narayan Chaudhary dislikes them and rejects Deepak’s love for Aasha. Deepak marries Aasha against his father’s wishes and thus Pratap Narayan Chaudhary and Deepak had a confrontation following which Deepak leaves his father and his inheritance from his father’s wealth and property. Deepak wants to help underprivileged people and serve the humanity. So he sets out for his journey with Aasha for a new life.
On their way Deepak meets a good hearted wealthy person Rasiklal (Utpal Dutt) who has an inherited business, but also wants to serve the humanity so that he is remembered by people in the society and also finds a place in the ‘good books’ of god. He helps Deepak to open up and run a hospital in his village where Aasha helps Deepak in nursing people. Unfortunately later, When Aasha is pregnant and about to deliver a child Deepak has to attend another woman’s delivery in the village where the lady is in critical stage. Deepak is able to save this woman and her child who showed no signs of life immediately after birth. Meanwhile Aasha is critical and before Deepak could reach to her, she had delivered a child and died during the process. It is in this situation where Deepak is mourning Aasha’s death and remembering her that we this song takes place in the movie.
It is a background song in the voice of Kishore Kumar. Lyrics are by Indeevar and music is composed by Shyamal Mitra.
