(Birth Anniversary – Shyamal Mitra – A tribute)
Today 14th Janunary’2023 is the ninety-fourth birth anniversary of yesteryears Singer and Music Director Shyamal Mitra.
He was born on 14th January’1929 and passed away on 15th November’1987 at the age of only fifty-eight years.
He was a known name as a singer and music director in Bengali movies and he was one of the stalwarts of the Bengali Film Industry with Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey.
While he had sung songs for many Bengali movies and composed music for many he also had composed many non-film songs in Bengali.
As far as composing music for Hindi movies is concerned he had composed music for only a few Hindi films only. They are (in alphabetical order) ‘Amaanush-1975’, ‘Anand Ashram-1977’, ‘Bandie-1978’, ‘Mamtaa-1977’, and ‘Safed Jhoothh-1977’.
As a tribute to him on his birth anniversary today I am presenting a song from the ‘1977’ movie ‘Aanand Aashram’.
It was directed by Shakti Samanta for his home production ‘Shakti Films’.
This movie had Ashok Kumar, Uttam Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, Utpal Dutt, Asit Sen, Anita Guha, Manik Dutt, Chandrima Bhaduri, Master Alankar, Manik, C.S. Dubey, Samar Rai, Amal, Mukund, Ratan, Jyoti, Master Ravi, Kumari Moushumi, Baby Shweta and others.
Actress Prema Narayan had a guest appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Sailajananda Mukhopadhya and dialogues were written by Kamleshwar.
Editing of this movie was done by Bijoy Chowdhury.
Shakti Samanta who produced and directed this movie also wrote the screenplay of this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.10.1977.
“Aanand Aashram” has six songs – all written by Indeevar and composed by Shyamal Mitra.
