“Cobra Girl”(1963) was directed by Nanabhai Bhatt for Rekha Chitra, Bombay. This movie had Raagini, Mahipal, Tiwari, Maruti, Ulhas. Surekha, Rajan Haksar, Gopal Sahgal, Mridula, Manorama, Nazeer Kashmiri, Abhimanyu Sharma, Madhumati, Sarika Rani, Nayna etc in it.
This Kaalpnik (fantasy) movie had eight songs in it. Five songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the sixh song from “Cobra Girl”(1963) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and chorus. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by S N Tripathi. The song is picturised as a wedding ritual song where saheli of the bride is singing this song.
I am unable to identify the ladies visible in the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.
PS-Our inhouse expert Sadanand Kamath jee informs us that the song has a sad version as well. He also informs that the bride is played by Surekha and her mother by Mridula Raani. After the happy version of the song, the bride gets kidnapped and killed. Seeing that her mother too dies of shock. That leads to the sad version of the song where would be bride’s brother Mahipal has to carry out the last rites of his sister as well as brother.

The lyrics are in continuation of the last stanza of Part-1 of the song followed by different lyrics.
The context of the song is that during the wedding rituals, when baarat is expected, Chanda (Surekha) is called out in the guise of meeting her brother, Saagar (Mahipal). Instead, she is kidnapped and killed by Shingali’s (Tiwari) gang. It is only when Saagar goes out in search of Chanda, he finds her dead body. So, instead of bringing the doli of his sister, he brings her dead body. Chanda’s mother (Mridula Rani) is shocked seeing her daughter’s dead body. She faints, get hit on the head and dies. At the end of the song, Saagar is witnessing two cremations.
