“Badi Door Se Chal Kar” sung by Mohd Rafi and Aziz Nazan was written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by Rajesh Roshan for the movie “Jai Vijay” (1977).

“Jai Vijay”(1977) was directed by L V Prasad for Prasad Productions, Bombay. This movie had Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Prem Kishan, Bindiya Goswami, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappoo, Urmila Bhatt, Kamal Kapoor, Lalita Pawar, Paintal, Brahamchaari, Sarla Yevlekar, Appi Umrani, Harish, Viju Khote, Lalita Kumari, Vikas Anand, Ranjan, Brahm Bhardwaj, Bhagwan, Roopesh kumar etc, with special appearances by Jayshre T and Veena.

One song from this album has been posted on the blog in 2019. Here’s the second song, which is a qawwali sung by Mohd Rafi Saab with Aziz Nazan.

The story according to IMDB is:

When the rulers of Malwa, Pushpapuri and Paanchal find out that their respective kingdoms are under attack by Jung forces, they consolidate their wealth, hide it underground, surrounded by 3 statutes of Hindu Deities, hide it’s location in 3 different necklaces, which are then handed over from generation to generation of their respective queens. 200 years later Shamsher Jung attacks and takes over the kingdom of Malwa, forcing Maharaj Dharampal Singh to flee and be eventually be separated from his wife, and two sons, Jay and Vejay. Years later Dharampal is still in hiding away from his wife, Jay has been brought by a bandit named Bhavani Singh, and is now known and feared as Sher Singh, while Vejay is the Senapati of none other than Malwa’s Maharaj, Diler Jung, the son of Shamsher. Everyone’s path will collide, albeit unknowingly, when they confront each other and race to be the first to take possession of the hidden wealth.

Coming to today’s song, there was a time when recording studios didn’t need auto-tune, they needed temperament. Just imagine this: Rajesh Roshan at the console, quietly sculpting melody like it’s silk, and in walks Mohammed Rafi with that divine, unshakeable sur, the kind that could make even a rehearsal sound like history. Beside him, the unmistakable qawwali thunder of Aziz Nazan, bringing his earthy, dargah-soaked energy into a mainstream studio, no dilution, no compromise. “Badi Door Se” from Jai-Vijay wasn’t just recorded, it must have unfolded like a mehfil caught between discipline and devotion. You can almost hear the tanpura humming in the background, the musicians alert, the red light glowing, and Rafi saab closing his eyes before the first note, because legends didn’t sing to impress, they sang to surrender. That’s not just a song, that’s atmosphere pressed onto vinyl.

Lyrics:

aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

deewaane ko kuchh aaj
paana to hai ae
hisaab apne dil ka
chukaana to hai

deewaane ko kuchh aaj paana to hai
hisaab apne dil ka chukaana to hai
nazar tumse aaaj
milaana to hai ae
badee door se
haaan
badee door se

haan
badee door se chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga aa
badee door se
chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga aa
badee door se chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga aa

naheen aa kar
haan haan
naheen aa kar
aahe
naheen aakar
phir apne haathhon se
hamen parda uthhaana hoga aa

badi door se
chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga

meree taanon se parde
kaanp ke gir jaate hain
mere naghmon pe dilbar
daude chale aate hain
jiske sangeet ka aa
ghaayal hai zamaana
haan aan aan
is deewaane ko haaye
toone ae
na samjha na jaana
bhala tu kya gaayegaa
aha
magar tujh ko to zidd hai
aha
gala hai kawwe jaisa
aha
sureelepan kee had hai
aaha
aaj mausam basanti hai
to maza aaj hoga
kaun mausam ka panchee hai
faisla aaj hoga

jaanee kawwa ho
jaanee kawwa ho
tum ya koyal ho
tumko bolee sunaana hoga aa
badee door se
chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga

kya kiya jaaye
zamaana hee kuchh aisa hai
chhotee auqaat pe
mahal mein tu baithha hai
na ho aisa aa
ke rang
badal jaaye ae ae ae ae
yahee mehfil kaheen
tujhpe na kayaamat dhaaye

lo to phir aa gaye hum
aa haa
aa gaye
chha gaye hum
aha
waqt hai jaag ja tu
aha
ab kahin bhag ja tu
aha
dekhe naheen koi
mukhda chhupaao

dekhe naheen koi
mukhda chhupaao

kahin more raaja
pakde na jaao

kahin more raaja
pakde na jaao

bahut banaaya
ab na banaao

bahut banaaya
ab na banaao

aa aa aa
aa aa aa
shakl hai teri jaise
aha
koi sookha chukandar
aha
yoon hai aasan pe baithha
aha
jaise daalee pe bandar
apnee makkaaree ko bekaaree kyun chhupaaya hai
raaz bhi dooje ka hai
taaj bhi pehnaaya hai

raaz bhee mera hai yeh
taaj bhee mera hai yeh
saaz bhee mera hai yeh
gaaj bhee mera hai ye

bhaag ja lekar
apni dholkee nigodee ko
lad gaye din tere ab haaa tu apnee
ghodee ko
pyar kee baat jo bolega
dil ko jeet lega
jo kala dikhlaayega
woh mehfil ko loot lega

kala dikhlaayega
kala dikhlaayega
jab deewaana
peechhe peechhe zamaana hoga aa
badee door se
chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhaana hoga aa

badee door se
chal kar aaye hain
tumhen jalwa dikhana hoga
