“Daastaan” (1950) which was a Musical Pictures Production, was directed by A R Kardar. Apart from Raj Kapoor and Suraiyya, this movie also had Pratima Devi, Al Nasir, Murad, Veena, Suresh, Shakila etc in it.

If 24th december was the birthday of Rafi then his close musical associate Naushad was not too far behind. Naushad was born on 25th december !

“Balam” (1949) is a movie starring Wasti,Suraiyya,Jayant,Masud,Nigar Sultana,Agha etc and several of these names do not ring any bells for most music lovers, that is how old this movie is.

Indian folklore has some well known love stories like “Laila Majnu”, “Shirin Farhad” etc. and Hindi movie makers tend to make movies on these characters on quite a regular basis. We had quite a few movies on them from 1940s till 1970s.
