Aata hai zindagi mein bhalaa pyaar kis tarah

Posted on: March 2, 2011

“Balam” (1949) is a movie starring Wasti,Suraiyya,Jayant,Masud,Nigar Sultana,Agha etc and several of these names do not ring any bells for most music lovers, that is how old this movie is.

Musically, this movie is an important movie. It was in this movie that Suraiyya and Lata sang together for the first time. In all they sang four duets together-once each in four movies. These movies are “Balam” (1949),”Sanam” (1950), “Shokhiyaan”(1951) and “Deewaana”(1952).

Three songs, including the firstever Suraiyya-Lata duet from this movie( O o pardesi musaafir kise kartaa hai ishaare ) has already been discussed in this blog.

Here is another song from “Balam” (1949). This song is a duet which is sung by Suraiyya and Rafi. It is picturised on Suraiyya and Wasti. I request my knowledgeable readers to confirm/refute my identification of the male actor, who is among the actors in this movie whose name does not ring a bell, though I am aware that he was a big star in his days.

Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. The lilting music of this song is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.

Aata hai zindagi mein bhalaa pyaar kis tarah

do lahren aa ke door se mil jaayen jis tarah
ho mil jaayen jis tarah
do lahren aa ke door se mil jaayen jis tarah
ho mil jaayen jis tarah
aata hai zindagi mein bhalaa pyaar kis tarah

ulfat mein gham jo aaye sahoongi main kis tarah
ulfat mein gham jo aaye sahoongi main kis tarah
sahoongi main kis tarah
toofaan mein naav chalti hai bach-bach ke jis tarah
ho bach-bach ke jis tarah

Suraiya & Lata together sang five duets .
In addition to the above mentioned 4 , instead of 1 they both sang 2 duets for Balam(1949) (o _ Padesi musafir & duniya waloun) under HusanlalBhagatram baton.

Atul ji,

A typo in last para; Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist.

Among the cast “Balam” mentioned in the description this song, a few names are recognizable.
1. Jayant – Amjad khan’s father, played the father of all kids in the movie beti bete (from which movie incidentally another song is posted today). He also played the Grand father of Dilip Kumar in film “Sangharsh”
2. Agha (Senior) is the father of late character actor Jalal Agha. Last seen in the T. V. Advert for Brittannia Coconut Crunchie(Biscuit) in the late eighties or so.
3. Nigar Sultana is the same one who plays “Bahar” in “Mughle-Azam if i am not mistaken.

I have not seen the movie ‘Balam”, but the names i could recollect.
