Many people may have noticed that the picturised versions of many songs are often different from their audio versions. One reason could be that the picturised version is often curtailed while editing the movie. But the main reason for the difference between picturised version and audio version is more technical. In olden days, it was technically not possible to record a song once and use it for audio as well as picturised versions. So those days the same song used to be recorded twice- once for the picturisation and once for the audio recording. So one could find some slight, and sometimes, more than slight differences in the two versions of the same song.

While listeneing to the songs of old movies, we often praise the singer and/ or the music director, but many of us tend to underestimate the contribution of the lyricist. However great a tune, or however wonderful a voice may be, unless the singer gets a good well written song, it is not very likely that the song is going to catch the imagination of the public.

In “Baawre Nain” (1950), Mukesh did the playback singing for the hero (Raj Kapoor) whereas Raj Kumari and Geeta Dutt sang for Geeta Bali, the heroine. But they were not the only playback singers in this movie.

Roshan had given music in 51 movies before his untimely death in 1967. A perusal of the songs posted in this blog tells me that I have posted songs from majority of these movies with music by Roshan. If I keep posting songs, soon I will have music from all Roshan movies in this blog.

I was not aware of this movie called “Hamdard” (1953). Now I have some information about this movie. “Hamdard” (1953) starred Nimmi, Shekhar and Smriti Biswas, and from the songs, the story appears a love triangle involving the abovementioned three actors.
