“Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishaaraa Ho Gayaa”, this lovely melody remains etched in my heart, as my first introduction to a dashing young Dev Anand, as seen on a Doordarshan screening of the film CID (1956). Time would be sometimes early seventies, and as a pre teen kid I was in the home of a friend (we did not have a TV of our own), religiously attending the Sunday film session, that was the once a week diet of film viewing generally allowed to us kids.

“Chhora Chhori” (1955) is by now an obscure movie. This movie was a “Show Peoples” production. It was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma. Cast of this movie includes names like Nand Kishore, Pratima Devi, Geeta Bali, Pesi Patel, Madhvi, Rashid Khan, Agha, Tony Walker etc.

“Aar Paar” (1954) was a Guru Dutt Films production and it was directed by Guru Dutt as well. The star cast included Guru Dutt, Shyama, Shakila, Bir Sakhuja, Johny Walker, Noor, Jagdish Sethi, Rashid Khan, Jagdeep etc. in it.

“Ilzaam” (1954) is a surprisingly obscure movie. This movie was a Talwar Films production. It was directed by R C Talwar. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Meena Kumari, Shammi, Jagdish Sethi etc in it.

“Kasturi” (1954) is a movie which was produced by Sargam Pictures and it was directed by Vrajendra Gaur. This movie had actors like Sajjan, Samson, Nimmi, Bipin Gupta, Anand Prasad, Alka etc in it.

“Mayur Pankh” (1954), a Sahu Productions movie, had Kishore Sahu romancing an English lady (Odette Ferguson). Instead of singing the usual duets, the two would go to various song/dance performances where a female dancer would be performing.

“Bilwamangal” (1954), a Minar Movies production was directed by D N Madhok. C H Atma played the title role in this movie and Suraiyya played his love angle. Nirupa Roy, Asha Mathus, Ulhas etc were the other actors to figure in this movie.

“Mayur Pankh”(1954), a Sahu Production movie, which was directed by Kishore Sahu had a star cast consisting of names like Kishore Sahu, Ramesh Gupta, Sumitra Devi, Jankidas, Reginald Jackson, Seema, Asha Mathur, Cuckoo, Moni Chatterji, Helen, Odette Ferguson, etc. The story line of this movie, as I have guessed from watching its songs is rather interesting. It shows an Indian man falling in love with an English woman and an English man returning the compliments by falling in love with an Indian woman.

I have mentioned the fact that Lata has the unique distinction of singing six different songs for six different actors in “Mayur Pankh”(1954). I have so far discussed two of these songs. It is only natural that I should want to discuss the other songs too.
