Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 18
Today’s song “Saaqiyaa Saaquiyaa Aankhon Se Jaam Pila De” by Asha Bhosle is another rare/rarely heard song from the 1960s.
The 1967 Hindi historical drama “Nawab Sirajuddaula” is a film based on the life and times of Siraj ud-Daulah, the last independent Nawab of Bengal. The film chronicles the political intrigue, betrayal, and colonial conspiracy that led to one of the most significant events in Indian history — the Battle of Plassey in 1757.

Ranthambore is a well-known place as a National Park more so as one of the top Tiger Reserves in the country. Perhaps, it may be the only Tiger Reserves where the tigers have the ‘exclusive rights to visit’ about a dozen historical monuments located inside the National Park. The tourists can only see these historical monuments from the Tiger Safari vehicles. However, there is one exception where tourists can visit without being the part of the Tiger Safari. The monument is Ranthambore Fort in the heart of Ranthambore National Park and located about 12 kms from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.

‘Aawaaraa Baadal’ (1964) was produced by Kailash Kapur and J P Sehgal under the banner of Amarjyot Films. There is some confusion as to who had directed the film – Kedar Kapoor or B R Ishara. Film’s poster has the name of Kedar Kapoor as director while IMDb and a few other websites mention the name of B R Ishara as the director. Film’s credit title does not mention the name of Kidar Kapoor but it mentions ‘dialogues written and directed by B R Ishara’. There may be some story behind this confusion. The cast included Ajit, Ragini, Indira Billi, Ramayan Tiwari, Jagdish Sethi, Leela Mishra, Niranjan Sharma, Mridula, Iftikhar, Dhumal, Indira Bansal, Tuntun, Sujata, Helen etc.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –14
I have covered Mukesh’s songs composed by Sharda in my previous post.
I have also tried to cover many aspects of her career, but a few more details remain. A lot can be written about her association with Shankar and the various gossips and stories. But then, what is also known is that Sharda never revolted or reacted to these. She continued her life and career with whatever she came across. As such, a thought ran through my mind that it is better to stick to facts and statistics rather than the personal lives of artists.
We all have our likes and dislikes. I am not particularly fond of Sharda’s voice. But, then in many of her songs there is this unconventional, distinctive childish texture in her voice. In many songs that she sang this was a welcome change and did manage to capture the attention of music lovers. In an era where heroines were evolving into more mature roles and free expressions, such a voice suited their antics on the screen.

‘Khufiya Mahal’ (1964) was produced and directed by Akkoo under the banner of Amar Films. The cast included Jairaj, Chitra, Mohan Sheri, Shaikh, Tuntun, Paul Sharma, Jilani, King Kong, Goldstein etc. Azad, Sundar and Indira Bansal made guest appearances in the film. The credit title also includes other ‘wonders’ such as ‘Flying Horse’, Gorilla’, Apeman, ‘Jin’ and a flying ‘palace’. Surely, the film belonged to ‘fantasy’ genre.
