Today’s song is from the film Akela-1941.

Produced by Kikubhai Desai for his own banner Great India Pictures, it was directed by Pesi Karani. Music was given by Khan Mastana, who was basically a singer. Songs were written by P.L.Santoshi. The cast of the film included Mazhar Khan, Bibbo, E, Billimoria, Miss Moti, Hadi, Bose, Pratima Devi and others.

There were 3 films with the same title, made in 1941, 1963 and 1991. Then there were variations like Akeli, Akele Hum Akele tum, Akeli Ladki and Akeli mat Jaiyo (last film made by Ranjit Studios in 1963).

In the 1930s and 1940s, there was a producer and director by the name of Kikubhai Desai. He had produced and directed many mythological films in the silent era. With the advent of talkies in 1931, Kikubhai Desai switched over to talkies. His expertise lay in producing talkies of stunt, costume and magical genres. He also directed a few of these films produced by him under these genres. Some of the films he produced under the banner of Paramount Pictures were ‘Chalta Purza’ (1934), ‘Khooni Kanjhar’ (1935), ’Jaadui Danda’ (1935), ‘Burkhawali’ (1936), ‘Guru Ghantal’ (1937), ‘Alladdin Aur Jaadui Chiraag’ (1938), ‘Aflatoon Aurat’ (1940) etc. These films were meant for mass entertainment only. The films were produced at his own Paramount Studio, now known as Filmalaya Studio.

The rolling pace continues to be consistent, but somehow it seems that the 10 thousand mark is approaching at a faster velocity. Just another three century milestones away now. Just about 9 more weeks or so to go.
