“Bambai Ka Babu” (1960) was a Naya Films production. It was directed by Raj Khosla. The movie had Dev Anand, Suchitra Sen, Nazir Hussain, Achala Sachdev, Dhumal, Rashid Khan, Manohar Deepak, Jagdish Raj etc in it.

In late 1950s and early 1960s, there were quite a few movies with “Bambai” in their title. Thus we had titles like “Bambai ka chor” and “Mr X in Bombay” those days.

I have posted two songs from “Bambai ka Babu” in this blog, and readers will agree that both of them were great songs. But as far as Binaca geetmala of 1960 was concerned, the most popular song from this movie was yet another song viz ” Chal ri sajni ab kya soche”.

If one is not aware of the details of the song, one may mistake it for an O P Nayyar composition. Punjabi sounding tunes and picturised on girls wearing Punjabi dresses, and sung by Asha Bhonsle- how can it be otherwise ?
But no, this catchy and racy tune was composed by S D Burman, assisted by his son R D Burman.
