Tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje

Posted on: November 29, 2012

“Bambai Ka Babu” (1960) was a Naya Films production. It was directed by Raj Khosla. The movie had Dev Anand, Suchitra Sen, Nazir Hussain, Achala Sachdev, Dhumal, Rashid Khan, Manohar Deepak, Jagdish Raj etc in it.

As many as five songs from this movie have already been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.

This song is sung by Manna Dey and it is picturised on Dev Anand and others. A police inspector , played by Manohar Deepak, is visible towards the end of the song.

This is the only song in the movie where Manna Dey gives playback for Dev Anand. Other other songs picturised on Dev Anand in this movie have been sung by Rafi.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

This song is the least known song from this movie. The tune of this song is based on a popular Bangla folk song “tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje Bangladesher dhol” which was composed and sung by S D Burman in late 1940s.

Lyrics of this song as well as other details of the song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.

Song-Tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje(Bambai Ka Babu)(1960) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)

dhoom tak dhoom baaje
bhai waah waah
haa haa
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
duniyaa teraa dhol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
duniyaa teraa dhol re
jitni aawaaz badi
utnaa badaa pol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje

dekho inhen inki seedhi hai chaal
maathe pe seedhaa tilak laal laal
bhai dekho inhen inki seedhi hai chaal
maathe pe seedhaa tilak laal laal
daulat kaa gaana bhajan ki hai taal
daulat kaa gaana bhajan ki hai taal
aur karni jo poochho to bilkul hai gol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
duniyaa teraa dhol re
jitni aawaaz badi
utnaa badaa pol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje

ik woh ke mahlon mein maujen udaayen
ik ham ke footpath par din bitaayen
ik woh ke mahlon mein maujen udaayen
ik ham ke footpath par din bitaayen
unke toh kutte bhi motor pe jaayen
unke toh kutte bhi motor pe jaayen
thokar ham khaate phire
ban kar football re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
duniyaa teraa dhol re
jitni aawaaz badi
utnaa badaa pol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje

ham pe jo beeti so beeti yahaan
par jo mere baad honge jawaan
ham pe jo beeti so beeti yahaan
par jo mere baad honge jawaan
ai kaash dekhe na wo ye samaa
ai kaash dekhe na wo ye samaa
jo kuchh hai mol meraa
wo na teraa mol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje
duniyaa teraa dhol re
jitni aawaaz badi
utnaa badaa pol re
tak dhoom tak dhoom baaje

Atul ji,
Now only the following song remains-

Arun Ji, I was listening to this song “Pawan Chale To” and it has the lines “Aise mein kachhu kaha na jaaye”, that you mentioned, if they are the same song we are talking about, then I guess we might have completed discussing all the songs from the movie. Yippee! moment? :).

Pradeep ji,
As per HFGK, ‘Pawan chale to..’ is sung by Asha,Rafi and chorus, whereas ‘Aise mein kachhu….’ is sung only by Asha and chorus.
Further there are 7 songs in the film, and the above song is the 6th song,so one more remains. They must be different songs.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the meaning of ‘My bad.’ which you use many times ?
