“Nirmal” (1952) is a movie that I knew nothing about. This obscure movie was produded by Shankar Theatre and directed by S Upendra. the star cast of the movie included Amarnath, Shanta Kanwar, Purnima, Shyam Kumar, Mirza Musharaf, Habib, Cuckoo etc.

“Anjuman” (1948) is a Nargis Art production movie, which meant that it was Nargis’ home production. The movie was directed by Akhtar Hussain. The movie had Jairaj, Nargis, Durga Khote, Anwar Hussain,Chandabai,Neelam etc in it.

“Haqdaar” (1964) was an archtypically B grade movie where utilisation of resources was kept to the bare minimum, with the result that the names of most artists involved in this movie are unfamiliar. The movie was a production of Shree Ganesh Films. it was directed by P S Wagle and the “stars” of this movie were Ranjan, Ratnamala,Nasreen etc, which I am sure were household names those days- in the households of these artists. 🙂

The title “Shaahi Lutera” appears to be quite a popular title for B grade movie makers. The first such title appeared in 1935. The next “Shaahi Lutera” was released two decades later in 1965, and another one in 1976. Considering the paucity of authentic information available about old movies in general and B grade movies in particulr, i is very easy to get facts about them mixed up. I have, for instance seen the songs of “Shaahi Lutera” (1965) being mixed up with songs of “Shaahi Lutera” (1976) in sites who in any case do not seem willing and /or capable of ensuring authenticity of information ( if any )being dished out.

“Jogan” (1950) was a Ranjit Movietone movie which was a big risk taken by Chandulal Shah, the producer, since the theme of the movie as envisaged by him was regarded as a recipe for disaster by leading directors like Nitin Bose and Mahesh Kaul, who refused to have anything to do with the project. Then Kidar Sharma took up the challenge and finished up the project in less than one month. This risky proposition, whose failure would have ruined Chandulal Shah financially had the movie failed, became a box office success.
