“Dost”(1954) was produced was Kuldip Sehgal and directed by Rajendra Sharma for Kuldip Pictures Limited, Bombay. The movie had Usha Kiran, Suresh, Majnu, Randheer, Ramesh Thakur, Khairati, Uma Dutt, Kammo, Mohana, S Kapoor, S Nazeer etc in it.

The movie had seven songs in it. Five songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the sixth song from “Dost”(1954) to appear in the blog. HFGK is silent about the singer of the song. It is clear that the song is sung by Lata (though there appears to be another female voice in it) alongwith chorus. Butaram Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.

Only the audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

Song-Sharaab e ishq jaati hai pilaayi pi nahin jaati(Dost)(1954) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Butaram Sharma, MD-Hansraj Bahl

ulfat ki nahin jaati
ye ho jaati hai apne aap
ulfat ki nahin jaati

meri aankhon mein usne
pyaar se jab daal di aankhen
aa aa aa
nigaahon mein hi dil ki baat

usi din se humaari
intzaari mein lagi aankhen
tamanna preet ki aji haan

tamanna preet ki aji haan tamanna preet ki

phir se khadi bhugti nahin jaati

“Mitti Ke Khilaune”(1948) was directed by Prahlad Dutt for Ranjit Movietone, Bombay. The movie had Karan Dewan, Nigar Sultana, Nirupa Roy, Dulari, Ram Avatar, S N Tripathi, Pandit Iqbal etc in it.

The movie had eleven songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the third song from “Mitti Ke Khilaune”(1948) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Butaram Sharma is the lyricist.

Bulo C Rani and Hansraj Bahl were the two music directors in this movie. This song is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Only the audio of the song is available. It appears almost certain that this song was lip synced by the lreading lady of the movie, namely Nigar Sultana. Nevertheless, i request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

This lovely joie de vivre song becomes the 400th song from movies of 1948 to appear in the blog. This year thus joins years from 1949 till 1961 that already have more than 400 songs each in the blog. Movies released in all years from 1948 till 1961 with 400 plus songs in the blog- this is a nice little achievement for us. Movies of these 14 years combine to have as many as 6584 songs in the blog !

Song-Pyaar kiya tab jaana (Mitti Ke Khilaune)(1948) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Butaram Sharma, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
hai dil ka chain ganwaana
aur apna aap mitaana mitaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana

kyun kyun bairan raat sataati hai
kyun bairan raat sataati hai
kyun aah nikalti
kyun bhaaye neer bahaana bahaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana

kyun dil mein dard sa rehta hai
kyun dil mein dard sa rehta hai
kyun chehra zard sa rehta hai
kyun chehra zard sa rehta hai
kyu bhool gaye muskaana muskaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana

kyun baadal ghir ghir aate hain
kyun badal ghir ghir aate hain
kyun jee mein aag lagaate hain
kyu jee me aag lagaate hain
saawan kyun hai suhaana suhaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana
pyaar kiya tab jaana ho jaana re
pyaar kiya tab jaana

“Karwat”(1949) was directed by Prakash for Srigopal Pictures, Bombay. This “social” movie had Geeta Nizami, Satish, Jeewan, Paro Devi, Leela Mishra, Kesri, Kamalkant, Sarita Devi, Indu, Dharpure, Kanta Patel, Preetam Malhotra etc in it.

The movie had twelve songs in it which were penned by as many as six lyricists and were sung by at least seven singers. Five of these songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the sixth song from “Karwat”(1949) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Butaram is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.

Seeing that Geeta Dutt was the main female playback singer in the movie, it is almost certain that this song was picturised on Geeta Nizami, the lead actress of the movie.

I have not been able to get one word (may be more) right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the words/ suggest corrections as applicable.

Song-Chal diye munh pher kar (Karwat)(1949) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Butaram Sharma, MD-Hansraj Bahl

Lyrics

chal diye muh pher kar
hasrat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye
berukhi aisi bhi kya
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
haaye berukhi aisi bhi kya
raahat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye

ghar se beghar ho gaye
armaan tamanna lut gayi
lut gayi
haay dil ke tukde ae
dil ke tukde kya huye
kismat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye

tinke chun chun kar
ummedon se banaaya aashiyaan
aashiyaan
haay phoonk daala aa
phoonk daala aur ne
mehnat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye

aansuon mein aa chhupi hai
zindagi se ??
??
haay jeete jee ee
jeete jee hum mar gaye
ulfat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye
haay
chal diye munh pher kar
hasrat ke tukde ho gaye
chal diye

Here is the second song from “Pagli Duniya”(1944) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Amirbai Karnataki. Butaram Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Only the audio of this song is available. assuming that Mumtaz Shanti was the leading actress in the movie, this song was almost certainly lip synced by her.

Song-Kyun aankh milaayi thhi gar aankh churaani thhi(Pagli Duniya)(1944) Singer-Amirbai Karnataki, Lyrics-Buta Ram Sharma, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

Many aspirants, dreaming of becoming actor, singer, lyricist, music director etc. have been attracted towards Bollywood right from the time that sound films came into existence in 1931. However, a significantly large numbers of such aspirants do not get a chance to prove their perceived talents. Some of them who get chances in Bollywood are mainly those who have their relatives or friends to recommend them to producers/directors. But there is no guarantee that they would be successful and would establish themselves in the Hindi film industry. Many of them had to either leave the film industry or look for some other vocations in the film industry which were not of their choices.

‘Mitti Ke Khiloune’ (1948) was produced under the banner of Ranjit Movietone and it was directed by Prahlad Dutt. The star cast included Karan Dewan, Nigar Sultana, Nirupa Roy, Dulari, Ram Avatar, SN Tripathi, Pandit Iqbal etc. The film was reviewed in March 1949 issue of ‘Filmindia’ magazine. The story of the film appears familiar, probably repeated in a few later Hindi films:
