“Buzdil” (1951) was a Filmarts presentation. It was directed by Shahid Lateef. The starcast of the movie had Premnath, Nimmi, Cuckoo, Kishore Sahu, Shahgul, Kanhaiyalal, Sunalini Devi etc in it.

There are some actors in Hindi movies who are so badly typedcast that it is rare to see or imagine them in roles different from the ones for which they are well known. For instance, Nimmi is perceived to be an actress who is always dealt a rough deal by the fate. Not just I, even some regulars are of the same view. For example, one regular, while sending me the lyrics of a song picturised on Nimmi informed me that he could detect a faint smile on Nimmi’s face in the pcturisation. I watched that song several times in super slow motion to witness the rare occurence.

S D Burman, a highly influential music director during the golden era of Hindi movie music was around for nearly the entire duration of the golden era. Born on 1 october 1906, S D Burman began his career as a Hindi movie music director in 1946 and he continued to enthrall music lovers with his compositions till 1975. He breathed his last on 31st october 1975. So today is his death anniversary.

“Buzdil” (1951) is a movie which had Premnath and Nimmi in lead roles. Yes, those were the days when Premnath used to act in lead roles. Kishore Sahu,Kanhaiyalal,Cuckoo etc are the other actors in this movie.

It may be difficult to imagine today, but villains like Premnath and Ajit started their filmy careers as heroes in late 1940s-early 1950s, and they in fact acted as heroes for almost a decade before becoming villains. As far as Premnath was concerned, he was a hero in A grade movies too.
