“Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1964) was a sensitively produced movie about the travails of a father who has a child who has lost his speech after an accident. When all hopes of his recovery are dashed then the father (played by Kishore Kumar) turns to God for help.

As a human being, Kishore Kumar was quite a study in contrast. He was mainly known by his ability to bring a smile, if not whole hearted laughter in people’s mind. His joie de vivre was infectious with his fellow artists. If Kishore Kumar acted opposite actresses now known for playing tragedy roles (viz Nutan and Meena Kumari), then you can bet that the resultant movie would be a light hearted comedy, and not a serious melancholic stuff.

Though Kishore Kumar is known for being a fun loving individual, he tended to make serious movies as a producer (with the exception a few movies e.g. “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”). “Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein” (1964) was a serious movie which was a labour of love for Kishore Kumar. Serious labours of love like this movie did not have too many takers among movie goer those days and such movies tended to flop at the box office. This movie too failed at the box office.
