Koi lauta de mere beete huye din

Posted on: November 27, 2008

Kishore Kumar is known for singing happy songs bubbling with joie de vivre. But that is not all. He could sing sad songs just as well. In fact, he has sung some wonderful sad songs reflecting different shades of sadness.

When it comes to nostalgic song, there is absolutely no doubt that Kishore Kumar’s song “Koi lauta de mere beete huye din” would rank as one of the topmost nostalgic songs of all time. This song was from Kishore Kumar’s home production movie “Door gagan ki chhaaon mein”. Kishore Kumar wore many hats in this movie. He was not just the producer and the hero of this movie, he was the singer as well as music director of this movie as well.

Despite wearing so many hats, he did full justice to al these roles and came up with a song that has become everyone’s favourite nostalgic song by now. The yearning to go back to one’s childhood days and relive them once again comes through so poignantly in this song. And let us not forget the wizardry of Shailendra who conjured up such lyrics.

This song is a precious gem in the treasure trove of Bollywood movie music.

Song: Koi lauta de mere beete huye din ( Door gagan ki chhaon mein) (1964) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics- Shailendra, MD- Kishore Kumar

Lyrics

albele din pyaare, mere bichhde saath sahaare
haay! kahaan gaye, haay! kahaan gaye
aankhon ke ujiyaare
meri sooni aankhon ke taare
hay kahan gaye

koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din
koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din
beete huye din wo mere, pyaare pal chhin
koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din
koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din

o mere khwaabon ke mahal, mere sapnon ke nagar
pee liyaa jinke liye, maine jeewan ka zahar
mere khwaabon ke mahal, mere sapnon ke nagar
pee liyaa jinke liye, maine jeewan ka zahar
aaj main dhoondhoon kahan kho gaye jaane kidhar
aaj main dhoondhoon kahan kho gaye jaane kidhar
beete huye din haay wo palchin
koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din
koyi lautaa de mere, beete huye din

o main akelaa to na tha, the mere saathi kayi
ek aandhi si uthi, jo bhi thaa leke gayi
main akelaa to na tha, the mere saathi kayi
ek aandhi si uthi, jo bhi thaa leke gayi
aise bhi din the kabhi meri duniya thi meri
aise bhi din the kabhi meri duniya thi meri
beete huye din wo haay pyaare palchin
koyi lautaa de mere, beete hue din
koyi lautaa de mere, beete hue din
beete huye din wo mere, pyaare pal chhin
koyi lautaa de mere, beete hue din

Wonderful song, echoing my sentiments! I just wish I could have frozen those moments in time, to savor them later, one moment at a time, I was listening to this song over the weekend, and kept admiring the lyrics and Kishore’s voice, filled with nostalgia for the past, which had me going down memory lane, remembering the days when I heard this song over our old Telerad radio! Thanks!
